GT430 and Core 2 Duo running battlefield 3, at 1360*768. Can that be done? A friend wants it on pc and he doesn't know if he can run it in the lowest settings.
Just get him to run this: http://www.geforce.com/GamesandApps/games/battlefield-3/GPUAnalyzer Although the short answer is no.
That's not helpful, it just compares against official requirements. Which are not right for his resolution.
Yep appreciate the res is lower, but as the min recommend for a smooth gaming experience is a GTX 560, I think even with all sliders at low a GT 430 will struggle. Although I am happy to be proven wrong. It was more of a gut feeling :=)
That card has 96 shaders. A 9800GTX with 128 shaders gets 42fps with everything at low at 1680 x 1050. So it might run, but it'll play and look like a pig. I've played 10 hours so far and played around with the setting and anything less than about 40fps feels a little clunky to me. Unfortunately BF3 is pretty much the most demanding game out at the moment. For more info see here
My 8800GTX runs it between 30-40fps, on mostly low to medium settings. How much RAM does the GT430 have?
I'm playing at 1400x900, with a Q6600 stock, 8800GT, 3gb ram and getting 30-50ish fps on low settings.
For what its worth my M11x can't run BF3 and it basically has a Core 2 Duo running at 1.9GHz and an rough approximation to the GT430. The R2 model which has a ULV Arrandale CPU (2 core, 4 thread) *can* run it (according to members on NBR.com). If the CPU is clocked at around 2.6GHz an up and the GPU receives some overclocking treatment it *should* be playable at low settings.
The 8800 destroys the 430 in sheer processing power though, despite being much older. I'd say you will be lucky to launch at all and even if you do prepare for a slideshow even with all the lowest settings.
The game isn't a slideshow on my M11x it just isn't quite playable (frame rates hover between 15 and 30fps). Assuming a more potent Core 2 Duo and the faster GT430 (vs the 335m in my M11x) it should be playable. Don't expect much better than 25-40fps at low / medium* settings though. *Some settings can be changed to medium with no noticable impact to the framerate - the same way they can be changed from medium to high with the same result.
