Hey guys if I do buy a GPU it would be one of these. On nvidia's site it says you ned 550W for a GTX 260. As usual they dont mention the amps and I have no idea how many amps it needs. The same goes for the GTX 275! Could someone having info regarding this please tell me how many amps both need and whether my PSU could work both of them? Here is a link of my PSU - http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=68&Itemid=1 Also I have a Coolermaster Praetorian 731. These cards would fit in em right? what is said on Nvidia is a safe value for the average PSU. Also, the Wattage is not just for the video card but for your hole system, as they consider that that is the power consumption of your system whenev everything is under 100% load.. which is hard to have in real life. A high end 520W PSU should be enough for your system with the GTX 260. If you want to be extra safe for future video card than a 620-650W will do just fine. Now if you go SLI, with these cards than yes you need a lot more power like a 750W or even more. In my case my CPU consumed more than your CPU. Mine is a 110W power hungry CPU which should compensate for your added HDD, and it runs fine with my 620W. Also, something that will slow down your system is your RAM. 3GB is not enough for today games. 4GB is fine for gaming at max settings. My system (see sig) has 3 GB of RAM and I see Windows doing quiet a lot of page file on my HDD. If I disable page file, most game just crash while I play due to a out of memory issue. So for you, and your nice Core i7, i would 6GB of RAM, or if you don't want to ever upgrade your RAM, and pass that on your next system.. maybe 12GB might fit such need better.
Alright thanks for the info. But would the PSU whose link I've supplied stand any chance of running a GTX 260 or 275?
Looks fine to me. However, I would recommend a higher quality PSU... My experience suggest that quality is more important than performance, especially for the PSU. It is critical to have PSU that provides clean current to your components, also protect them in the case your power adapter fails on you. I mean you spend all this money on a system, and then you don't put a high end PSU which the unclean current can play with system stability and let alone slow long term based component damaged. Also, your PSU doesn't even have modular cable, this means harder to do cable management, more heat in your system as air flow can pass properly, and more noise as fans needs to turn faster to compensate. I would look for Corsair HX series PSU. They also have a 5 year warranty and is ultra quiet. Or you can look for Thermaltake as well. They are others, however I don't have personal experience with them
I know that people have gotten GTX 260s running stable on Shuttle 450W PSUs, but I don't really know any specific info. My 4870 1GB runs fine, and it's a pretty powerhungry card.
Yup most probably I think I'll do that. Thanks a lot for the info mate. Other people feel free to post anything regarding this. All info is good info!
Glacial Power? It's not exactly.. "brand name" great. You can try it, "550W" should be enough under modern scenarios, and I wish you luck.
Well yea it isnt big brand but one of the most stable ones i've had. Now since I plan to overclock Im not sure whether I should keep this PSU.... I have prvided a link to it in my first post...
I have the budget for the new one....but I dont wanna waste money on a new one if my current one can run it properly....but when in doubt get a new one lol
