Been reading about how in the past modders have taken the internal heatsink of a graphics card off! I'm not talking about the massive heatsink but the sort you get seated on top of the GPU just like with a GTX 460 and I think the 260 had the same. Has anyone had experience of removing this piece of metal and making direct contact between the business end of a cooler and the GPU? Did the temperature reduce by an appreciable amount?

Ahh the heat spreader? I wouldn't if you don't break the processor you'll most probably break the card somehow by gauging the card with a screwdriver! Obviously not the same construction but I tried this with a celeron processor and took the die off with the heat spreader!
