    Hi guys,

Bit of a dilemma that I can’t make my mind up about. Basically I have a friend who I play BF with, some of you have probably played with him on the BT server (Icestation1). Anyhow, he’s not a wealthy man, and currently rocks a GTX 260 on a 1080p. Now the beta struggled a bit at that res, and he asked me if there is a better card out there, but on a budget of about £70

I was thinking mainly about either a GTX 460 1GB but I can’t seem to find one for that price. However, I’ve been offered a 4870x2 at £70 which could potentially offer better performance. He has a 650w Coolermaster GX PSU so it should just about be enough to run the X2.

Which would you plump for, and if the 460, does anyone know of anyone selling? Alternatively, other ideas welcome!

Hmmm that's a difficult one it will be hard to find a 1gb 460 at that price you could get the 768mb version. If you can get the 4870x2 for slighty lower like £60 then go for that. Try haggling the person down.

mmmmm toasty 4870x2. these run at stupid high temps had a few come to me for a reflow (oven bake) as they got so hot and buggered the solder up. good card but i would be tempted to go for something else that doesnt consume the national grid and produce the same heat as the sun. also they are very noisy with there leaf blower cooler.

Yeah, for me, the biggest thing putting me of a 4870x2 is the power consumption, noise, heat levels and of course, reliability. I really don't want to get a card that dies in 2 months time. If nothing else I'd feel bad!

I would really hunt for the GTX460 and stretch the budget a bit if you can't find one in that price range. Its a card that runs BF3 perfectly fine on High, its cool, it doesnt consume all that power, and you dont have to worry about reliability.

My 460 ran the beta pretty well and its the 'special edition' which has less of something (can't remember what :D)

Edit: about 80% of the cores
