Over the weekend I started putting my computer together but I ran into a problem. After installing windows 7 and updating all the drivers of the motherboard and gpu using the cds they came with, i would get screen flickering when opening certain programs. The warning message in the corner saying your display adapter has failed but has been restored flickers a few times, then the computer blue screens. The motherboard is Asrock z68 extreme 3 gen 3. CPU is intel i5-2500k . The gpu is evga gtx 480. power supply is corsair enthusiast series tx750 v2 750w . The error occured when opening Firefox, IE, and magic the gathering online client. I haven't tried others. I tried updating all the drivers to the latest editions, and updating directx but the error persists. I used driver sweeper and used 3 seperate drivers for the card but none worked. all the temps are fine. the mobo doesnt have a main pcie slot, but the board bios have pcie as primary display adapter as opposed to onboard. The machine works fine when i take out the gpu and use on board graphics. is my card bad?
I would try a clean install, then only use the latest official stable drivers to test it out. Then claim under warranty against the GTX 480 if it proves faulty. Easier if you registered with EVGA directly soon after buying the card.
Use the drivers on the disk that came with the card is always recommend no matter how old, you can then update from there
