2GB for resolutions above 1080p. TBH there is just too much "similarly performing" hardware to choose from these days, especially graphics cards... the 560Ti and 570 are so similar in performance that the price difference to me makes the decision a no-brainer - if people are prepared to pay 1.5x the cost for a 10% jump in performance, then there's no reason to ask the question in the first instance.
Will 2gb make no difference then if I'm not running anything above 1080p? What's above 1080p, the usual PC 1920x1200? I really want high FPS in powerful games.
Resolutions vary between 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios: there is 1920x1200, then 2560x1440, then 2560x1600. To answer your question: realistically no, you won't notice a massive difference with 2GB... but it does depend on the game. If you can afford it, you would be as well just to get it.
That settles it for me....I'm going for the Hazro 272 monitor which has a native res of 2560x1440. Because I'm going for the monitor now I won't be able to afford a suitably beefy GPU like an GTX 580. Hence I've been looking at reviews and benchmarks...a GTX 560ti is very reasonable at that res for most games though of course not the best and it does depend on the game and AA. But the 2GB version is just 12 pounds more than the 1GB MSI Twin Frzr II/OC version so I'm headed down thata way. It will become a present for my brother in a few months time and when GTX580 is much cheaper than at present.
Have you checked Eclipse I think they have a 2gb 560 though I can't be 100% sure right now, and I'm not near a laptop to check lol Edit - http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=GC-XNGTX562 it's only the 560 not the ti! And the generic too!
where do you read your reviews? a stock 570 does a little bit better than 10 % over a stock 560ti... of course, i can't speak with much authority to prices over there and i know they are screwed, but i've seen a few links on the forums where the price increase wasn't 50% most reviews i've read (here, tom's...etc) show stock for stock, a 570 gives 15% to 30+% depending on the game...i paid about a 12% premium over a similar 560ti for my 570 (twin frozr III to the twin frozr hawk or w/e it is on the 560ti)
Well, you're in the dice there. You can't afford the high performance card because of your high rez monitor which will demand a high performance card.
+1 Great advice given, from what has been said across several threads I have posted I have found my perfect build and only gone over budget by a little Photos of build in progress will be posted later this week. Ordering/picking up components wednesday
Nice choice of monitor! The 570 gets a lot more than 10% performance over the 560Ti. And the old, overclock the 560Ti to get up to 570 performance just doesn't work, OC the 50....
After talking to a few people and mulling things over...I've decided to forgo the 27" route for the time being....At that native res the GTX 560ti will start to struggle once I start playing some newer games....man I have over 170 games at steam cos they (DAMN THEM) have so many great offers for so many games...I've bought so many games DIRT cheap...never more than a tenner and 80% less than a fiver so man some of the games are old school that I never got round to playing...some I bought just to have a copy on steam....and want to play again. Right now I'm playing the Riddick games (the two in one version - finished escape from butcher and started the second) and ofc TF2. So in a way my thinking was to play the older easy on the GPU games....and wait for some months for a beefier GPU ie the GTX 580. However, the monitor side of things made me reconsider...in an ideal world I want a Dell monitor. At present I can;t afford any of them but mainly cos I'm buying a whole new rig from scratch. Hence, the whole cost would be much higher and the Dell U2711's are just waaaaaay too much for the time being. I've decided to back off on my order of the Hazro Hz27WC and stick with the excellent LG IPS231...which I have to say LOOKS AWESOME! And with that I have been able to buy a beefier card (MSI twin Frozr GTX 570...for £240 with free batman and free wolkking warrior gaming keyboard (pad) from scan)....so I feel much happier...and I went for an expensive-ish case also, with some extra quiter fans.... So all ordered from scan...case coming tomorrow...rest when scan has some more stock of a few items....LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!!
NOoooooo! Rock the EVGA card! Good choice on the monitor front! Just think you can run it as a secondary monitor once you get you U2711 and GTX 580!
Well I didn't ever say "stock" 560, but it was my mistake not to mention that I was referring to an SOC or similar, which changes things dramatically - a 560Ti SOC is close to (and in some cases better than) a stock 570. With that in mind, check the prices: 560Ti OC1 £165 The cheapest GTX 570s on ebuyer and scan are £250. Granted the OC 570s will widen the gap in peformance, but not to 1.5x like the price...
I would go for the 560Ti + SSD as graphic cards will always need to be updated at some point but a good SSD will serve you well for many more years to come
My mistake - I linked to the one Parge had but for some reason had the wrong URL in my clipboard. Still...... case in point: the 570 is almost £100 more expensive than the almost-equal 560Ti OC
