i knew it! the price should be under £800 - but limited supply and price guoging , the etailers will try and get away with it for as long as they can

Reviews never reflect actual VRAM usage because of the scenarios picked, and the games benchmarked. At 2560x1600 and above it's very easy to go over 2GB VRAM, as long as the horsepower is there to get the FPS.

I think we can all agree true_gamer has shown this to be true.

You can't argue with more also... it just is better in the end. Even if you loose some fps in some cards, you can't make up for memory that isn't there later.

Sorry but no HDMI connection for me is a fail :nono:

    Think I'll stick to 2 x 680's

    Contradiction much?

I don't think manufacturers of any sort should stop pushing to create faster and better high end products just because of a poor economy. Pretty sure this isn't aimed at people who are affected by the economy anyway.

Nope - I was making a point, that for £100 more you can get 2x GTX 680 4GB versions.

Also, I'm not stating they should stop producing faster products. They need to keep prices down, as inflation has not gone up.

I remember paying £289 for my BFG GTX 280 on release day. So why have GFX cards shot up +25% in 3yrs? Last I recall, we've been in recession for the last 3-4Yrs...

    key work 2x

Would suggest £509 each.. much less than £900.. I see no contradiction if we are going to start splitting hairs.

Yeah, another one that I can look at and just envy. One day when I am rich and powerful and... naw, by that time, I still won't be able to afford the GTX XX90 Ti. The price increase will still be too much!

I am sorely tempted to get a 690 simply to try out Surround on it. It would come in around £100 more than getting a second 680 - once the sale of my current 680 is factored in - but the look of the cooler and the outright geekiness of it are drawing me in. My wife even said I could get one which is :eeek:...*

I could even try out Tri SLI - which judging by the comments in the Anand review *should* work.

*One caveat though is I won't be able to upgrade at all for the rest of the year (could be annoying if the rumoured GK110 rears its ugly head in GTX780 guise around Autumn time...

I am currently resisting but its hard. I know it doesn't make much sense beyond "I want one" but argh, I WANT ONE.:rolleyes:

No doubt I will end up doing the "sensible" thing (is there such a thing when talking about enthusiast computer parts?!) and get a second 680. There will be times where I have the GPU grunt but not the VRAM but there are also many occassions where I really could with more GPU grunt at my resolution but have plenty of VRAM headroom. My current fix is Crysis 1 with CCC level 6 and additional mods. I am only using around 1.7GB of VRam BUT MY fps are in the 25-35 region.

Sorry, I was told SLI 680s would be weaker and more power consuming than 1 690 making the 690 better value

People are prepared to pay that much now?

Sli 680's won't be weaker the 690 has under clocked cores, so will be slower. If you want to save power under-clock the 680's.

If the 690 was less than 2 680's it would make sense, as it stands i know what i'd be getting 2x 680's
