I have a dilemma. I can go for a GTX580 with a Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA OR I can afford to go for the Dell Ultrasharp 2410 but would have to go for the GTX570.

So lower powered card with higher res monitor or higher powered card with lower res monitor?

    oh sticky wicket.
What you playing / using PC for? Do you need high FPS or increased res on screen for editing etc ?

Save a little longer and get U2410 with GTX 580...Job done!

Or if you can't. I would get the U2311 and GTX 580!

if you HAVE to buy it right now, get the better screen and then just overclock the 570 :-/

But as true_gamer says - just save a bit more and get the best of both worlds.

    GTX570 with U2410 without a doubt.

as nice as gtx 580, it will be out of date within a year of owning it, whereas the U2410 will still be very nice and big to use after even 5 years.

always, ALWAYS invest in monitor when there is a decision to be made.

I wish i could just apply that logic to all situations. I would have an awesome monitor............but i would be single.

The monitor will last much longer + games will still look better with the slightly higher res despite having to in the very few game that the 570 struggles with possibly having to drop AA a little.

Going to use the PC primarily for games but also want to edit photos. So in answer to your question I want high FPS and high res. I just want everything, I want it now, and I'll want more tomorrow:naughty:

Both cards are going to breeze through any games at the moment, so there will be very little real-world difference between them. On the other hand there will be a big real-world difference between the 2209WA and U2410 and on top of that a monitor will last you a lot longer than a graphics card.

If you are buying the monitor from Dell, give a call to Dell Small Business (you don't need to be a business... you can say Family business if you want). You can negotiate a price on the U2410 (and free shipping). Perhaps you might afford the GTX 580 and the U2410 with some work on Dell side :)

The Dell U2410 is 700$ Canadian at Dell website.. after a phone call,.. I got it at 450$.
Perhaps you might be lucky. You might need to try a second time in he case you fall with a new person and doesn't know his system well.Of course, if you are not happy. Simply don't buy it (don't give your credit card info).

Thanks Goodbytes. I did try that when I was looking at buying the 2209WA but they wouldn't drop it lower than the price Scan had it for. I tried three times. Thanks for the tip though. It was worth a try. :thumb:

Another vote for the 570 and 2410. Overclock the 570 and you have a 580!

Definitely go for the better/larger monitor and the 570. The 580 is completely wasted on 1680x resolution, wheres a 570 is a nice powerful choice for 1920x

I'd prefer the 2209wa to the U2311H any time. Yes, it has a slightly lower resolution, but a much better panel (8 bit). The U2311H only has a 6 bit + A-FRC panel.

Also (and perhaps because of the above), image quality is often rated higher for the 2209wa than the U2311H ...and the U2410, for what it's worth.

EDIT: Just looked up the specs on the U2410's panel (LM240WU4-SLB1) and it's an 8 bit + A-FRC.

Monitor size over gpu power anyday, the 570 is still a darn powerful card, but you'll really notice the difference from the 22" to the 24"
