    To add:
If I can play most games at max max max setting with my GTX260 (ok it's started to struggle), the GTX 560 is a MUCH more powerful card will have no problem for many many years to come.

    I have a problem now.

I visited YoYo Tech in London today and a looked at the u2410 and the 2209WA. The u2410 was a fantastic size but it had a pink tint to it and the 2209WA appeared a little fuzzy, it also appeared to have very thin bars of black at the top and bottom of the screen on the windows desktop. I also looked at a iiyama 24" (albeit not the 16:10 ratio that I like) which looked no different.

The guy there said that at the price point I am looking at there is little difference between IPS and a good quality TN panel. And that I should buy a good TN.

I am now really confused. He didn't try to sell me anything but suggested I buy a cheaper TN panel with a better size than a IPS panel, which to me suggests he is being honest. Of course he may just be making more money out of TN. His suggestion was a IIyama 24". He did seem very nice though. Which is more than can be said for his colleague who couldn't be bothered to even tell me which screen was the U2410.

I want a 16:10 monitor. I want good skin tones and I want to play FPS. HELP!!!

Want to bet that none of the panels at Yoyotech were calibrated?

Is the U2410 really worth the £480 pounds it costs in the UK? Would I not be better off buying a 24" Tn and using the money on some hardware? An SSD perhaps? I bet you are right though fingers.

I have come to the conclusion that buying a monitor is like buying a pillow. You have no idea how good they are until you have tried them, and what you like I don't.

Good point. But I have read that the u2410 has a pink tint.

Building my first PC for years is really difficult. Do I buy this, do I buy that?

And I thought women were difficult.:duh:

I know lots of people would disagree, but I'd go for a cheaper 24inch TN and get better HW, or get a 27inch+

Yup.. it's called faulty screens. LG was producing faulty screens for itself, HP and Dell. This problem was solved mid 2009.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but it is normal that you have 1-2 "pixels" line around the screen and the frame (I say "pixel" because you don't have any there in reality). You won't find a monitor with a frame that is pin point perfect to the LCD, it's just impossible.

I highly doubt it. Stores do whatever it takes to sell their products. They probably tweaked the colors via software on the PC or monitor so that the IPS panel doesn't look that good. Also it could also be that the fact that the panel is faulty. Or they tweaked the TN panel to "boost" colors. You see it fine.. but if you had the same settings at home, you'll be like "Why everything is cartoon'ish". Be sure to view real life HD pictures taken from a good camera or Windows 7 pictures on an non-altered PC, powered by an Nvidia or AMD graphic card (not Intel or VIA), and that the monitor is on Display Port or DVI. Finally, make sure the monitor is on Adobe RGB color or sRGB (on the monitor OSD menu). In addition, make sure in Windows color profile, that "sRGB" color profile is selected if you are in Adobe RGB (you need to restart any program to view effect), and use the monitor one (but better get a calibrator for this as these profiles are not monitor specific), with the sRGB color, and that the monitor profile is the latest version.

Also, stores plays with saturation and digital vibrant, and the store lights to ensure that everything looks awesome. I worked at 2 retail stores, and every box I had to open and install for monitor, or PC or wtv.. they where pre-opened box. The stored called "pre-configured" or "pre-optimized".

    More store scams:
    60Hz vs 120Hz
"See the the Difference" demo from FutureShop (Best Buy in Canada)

    The reality:

The 60Hz model is on composite, while the 120Hz is on HDMI.

Or simply, they tune the TV they want to sale to HD channel, and the other one to SD channel. "Look it's better!".

Once you work in retail store for a while.. you know all the tricks.

Another trick was the excellent HP envy. We had 5 in stock. But profit margin was minimal. Apple Mac Book Pro was providing the most money, AND we had plenty of them. SO where do we place the HP Envy?! In the hidden corner of the store where light is low, where he put other budget laptops like from Gateway and eMachines. The store don't remove the dust on them, or finger prints on the screen. Cleaning only applies to the Mac Book Pro and "interesting" laptops (for the store.. not you).

Anyway, I can go on and on about these store tricks.

I am sure he is PACKED with TN panels and near or sold out of IPS panels, not to mention that the store makes more money on TN panels.
Lesson in life: NEVER trust a sales man.
In fact the provided TN panel, isn't even a good TN to start with.

No my friend. He wasn't honest.. or he doesn't know. IE: He ignored the fact that the monitor he or some else installed, had it's settings modified. Sometimes these settings are modified by the manufacture also, in which case there is no way to know, only that you have this monitor box that says "DEMO ONLY" on it.

Please check the DATES of what ever you read. LG produced faulty screens It affected HP, Dell and even themselves. This is no new, every manufacture is guilty of that. It just happens. This problem was LOOOOOOONNNNNG time fixed.

Thanks everyone. Goodbytes you have claryfied it once again. Forgive me, I was tempted by the evil TN monster and almost sinned.

On the other hand, damn, I hoped I was going to get away with a cheaper screen and spend more on hardware:wallbash:

Graphics card you will want to replace in a year.

A great monitor will give you years of pleasure.

    Don't skimp on the monitor.

Looks like I'm getting a U2410 then. Now to find a good price. Have tried Dell recently and they wouldn't beat Scans price. Will look around.

Really? Did you try again? Maybe you fell on someone new, and doesn't know the system well.
They should AT LEAST be able to match the price. If only you were in Canada, I could have provided you with my Dell Account Manager and get you the best price possible. :/

I tried a couple of times. Am going to give it another go tomorrow though. The cheapest I have found is :-

    http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=822

It says it is revision A05 and is £442.80 with free delivery. Never heard of these people before but they have good reviews on Google priducts and Ebay.

The next cheapest is from Aria at £443 but with shipping at £10. Problem is that ARia use a company called CItylink for deliveries. I have worked with Citylink in the past and they treat parcels like footballs:-

I didn't work for them, I worked for a company that used them. We sold astronomical equipment and they would either not turn up to the customer or if they did they would throw the boxes around like they were trying to break the contents despite - or because - being marked fragile. Their drivers - with a few notable exceptions - were thick, surly and lazy. Which is why we ended our contract with them.
