Hi, I have a pentium III machine with 128 MB RAM and 20GB harddisk. I have thought of buying a External Tv-Card. Someone tell me the best TV-CARD(EXternal) for this system configuration ???!~!!!! Advanced thanks, karthik bala guru
Well if its external then its got to be USB. I would go with a Haupagge. I once had a Hauppage External PVR 250. This is a nice little External card which has the bonus of PVR - Personal Video Recorder. This gives you the option to pause your tv. It stats recording in advance and when you want to play again it does while still recording the live TV in advanced. Its got Mpeg2 compression handled by the built in mpeg2 hardware. Your low spec PC can still record TV well as its not relying on your PC hardware . Although you probably wont as you only got 20GB. But it records in present modes eg. DVD Standard/Long and extra Long Play - VCD - SVCD etc. So VCD probably be fine using 700MB for about 2 hours. Hauppage DEC2000 this is also a good USB External TV card. My flat mate had this one. It doesnt have the PVR function but it has a Digital Freeview Box built in. You can pick up all the Freeview Digital Channels as well as the normal analogue Channels. Oh wait your in India and not the UK. But its still a external TV card and Has Digital Freeview if you do get that in India???? I have had alot of Hauppage Cards. Hauppage WinTV - cheap mono card. Hauppage Theatre - Has Surround Sound Output and Radio. Hauppage PVR 250 External - Mpeg2 Hardware Compression Hauppage PVR 250 Internal - Mpeg2 Hardware Compression Hauppage PVR 350 Internal - Mpeg2 Hardware Compression and Radio I have used. Hauppage DEC2000 External - Digital Freeview box and Digital Radio. I have not used or had the Hauppage NOVA External TV Card This one I dont really know much about. I think it is just a normal bog standard TV card but I think it is the one that can Pick up Satalite TV channels through the Internet. Something Like that. Not been very Interested in it. I can say Hauppage cards are very good, stable and reliable. You cant go wrong with one. I think this post should of been posted as "which TV card for me" and not "guess which TV card". Cant guess as you dont have one. Hope this helps.
There is no such thing as external PVR 250 what you probably mean usb2 pvr which will work on usb 1.1 if your p3 mobo only has usb 1.1 but not as good as usb 2.0
