I'm guessing we're dealing with an IPA (Industria Portuguesa de Automoveis?) 300 based on the British Anzani Astra (which it does remind me of) and introduced in 1958. If I'm right, a full picture and some basic details (s/a the amount of units manufactured) would be appreciated so that I can stump some people elsewhere with this thing. EDIT: OK, I've found the picture but the model is dated 1957. Clarification, please?
No, I'm right about the 1957/58 IPA 300. I'm just too lazy to repost the relevant picture I've found (it's featured on a site that requires one to be a member in order to view it) so I'm just, uhm, politely waiting for the poster's confirmation.
That was one obscure microcar, I must say. How about something more relaxing then: I have one hint for you: it's not a popular brand.
does look like a holden badge in the grille, similar shape to a sunbird or torana but no matches for the headlights, and steering wheel is on wrong side :/
In my search I found a 'shop of a fat man in a mini, a picture of Sarah Palin, and nothing that looks close enough for a guess! Shouldn't John be up soon?
Mac's definition of popularity 'Popular' - familiar to Mac. 'Unpopular' - unfamiliar to Mac. Seriously though, you need to use common sense, I'm afraid. It's neither a Holden nor an Opel although both of you are close (albeit without the required cigar). This should help.
Looks like a Daewoo or a Saehan. Asian shape, little chrome mirrors like early Datsun, tiny(by todays stds) bumper, no sidelights for US
It's not Asian at all. It was available in certain parts of Western Europe and... somewhere else but I'm afraid I have to be vague about that location for the time being.
The shape/lines look very morris marina-ish EDIT: Is it possibly a south african ranger? Judging by the 4 doors the sedan variant?
looks damn close! I think TA has it - can't find the original pic though Made by GM so kinda popular make!
TA has it indeed. It is a GM Ranger, launched as a separate brand in 1968 and manufactured in Belgium, Switzerland and South Africa until the mid-70's. My picture shows a relatively early incarnation of the model - a 1970-71 type A. Second gen (post-1972) models looked remarkably similar to certain other GM products, most notably the Chevy 4100. Apparently, those outward similarities led to the company's decision to discontinue the sympathetic Ranger brand. The manufacturer is popular alright but the brand has been practically forgotten. (The guesses seem to prove that theory.) I mean, when did you last hear someone mention a (GM) Ranger (outside of this thread, of course)?
