Don't know who Basil Fawlty is, but it only seems to offend the elder people. It doesn't bother me, nor any of my friends and I don't think it bothers any other young person, cept those stupid bald headed neo nazis who had their brains exchanged for a load of dairrhoea ... Cheers [DE]FreD_S
No problems mate O.k. 1. Yes and No. VW, Mercs and BMW alot, Porsches not so much, their too expensive. Opel ( vauxhaul ) and French cars are driven alot aswell. 2. Yes, we still have the "index". It's pathetic as it is state censorship, but yes we have it. Games, books, videos and even music is on the index. We have an institution called the BpJS (Bundesanstalt für Jugend gefährdende Schriften ) which tests the product that are to be put on the index and then decide if they are or not. Not every game etc. they test is put on the index. Counterstrike for example was tested and was not put on the index. When something is put on the index, you can only buy it if you're over 18. Magazines and TV are not allowed to advertise it either. 3. We have a representative Democracy. I don't know exactly how it works, as I never payed much attention in politics at school ... maybe if Der Meister reads this thred, he could answer this question. 4. Camping ? It's mixed - some won't, some will. It mostly depends on from what social class they come from, but it doesn't have to be. 5. Neo Nazis. Yes, we have em. The majority of the German people are against anything that has to do with nazisme, but there are groups and even political parties that are extremely right winged. And they are extreme ! There are few, but they organized and very brutal. You'll mostly find them in the former DDR ( East Germany ) but we also have them in West Germany. It was even a subject in parlament to ban a certain political party ( DVU ) because they are a threat to our society and democracy. But they weren't banned ... In my opinion all these people should be shot. No I mean it ... they're a threat to all of us and they cost us all alot of money cause 90% of them are unemployed ... But then again I'm very tired and might be writing crap Hope I answered all questions ... Cheers [DE]FreD_S
1. Cause alot of people would be too stupid to understand English or to read the subtitles. I hate it and since I can't recieve the Dutch channels anymore I don't watch TV anymore. 2. I don't think so, but then again, I don't seem to be a "normal" German ... It's a matter of being "in" or "out" ... staying in Germany for your holidays is pretty much "out" but what do you do if can't afford very much ? you just take the countries next door like Austria, France, Denmark and Norway ... Hungary is becomeing more popular these days as Mallorca increased the prices so much cause all these stupid idiot German people were going there. I think it was correct of them to increase the prices, the people who went there were imbarrasing for Germany. Cheers [DE]FreD_S
NO ! Hehe ... he was "in" a few months back in the early 90s but nowadays - No ... defenetly no ! Cheers [DE]FreD_S
God, my written English is soooooo bad. I'd like to apologise to everyone for this crap - sorry. I'll try to improve it. Cheers [DE]FreD_S
i remember watching viva i thiink it was & on one of there sections fast forward hosted by charlotte roach (i think thats hwo you spelll it) they played a anit neo nazi advert once & i thought it was funny it was in german but had english subs (odd i know but stay with me here) it started off sayng do not fear neo nazi's then ti had 2 of then with a clothes line attached to there arms & a woman came otu & said heil hitler & they put there arms up thus creatign a clothes line & the caption read (do nto fear neo nazis these simple creatures have very liitle to offer the public as a whole so we must embrace them & help them into becoming useful members of society, like we have here) well i thought it was a funny advert i think that ont he whole the german music channels (mtv2 pop, viav, viva plus mtv deuscheland) are better as they play more types of music, english, french, german, heck ive seen a fair amount of banghra on them (cant wiat to ditch my analogue kit so i can pull them & many other in in lovely digital goodness)
Why do germans always leave their towels poolside on holiday? It's quite possibly the most annoying thing when you get up early for a soak in the sun to find ALL of the sunloungers have german towels on them
You're right - it sucks ! As I wrote above, I don't like it either, you just don't do that ! I take the towel away and put it somewhere else, I don't care how pissed the guys or gal is gonna be when they come back 3 hours later, if they touch me, I touch them ... Cheers [DE]FreD_S
RTL2 used to have some nice anime series, but as I don't watch TV anymore I don't know what they're like now, I used to like em. VOX ... dunno, never had anything interesting for me just one of those channels that are there but you never find anything interesting running ... Cheers [DE]FreD_S
Sorry, my bad most of the brits round here'll know him from Fawlty Towers, everyone else'll know him as john cleese. He played a hotel owner who was more or less crazy and acted mad. http://www.bbcamerica.com/genre/comedy_games/fawlty_towers/fawlty_towers.jsp has some info on it, In one episode there were german guests and Basil was finding it hard not to mention the war and eventually starts arguing with the german guests which creates what I think is the best ever exchange in tv history In reference to WW2 German guests "You started it" (meaning the argument) Basil Fawlty "NO YOU DID, YOU INVADED POLAND" ..... Has me doubled over in laughter every time. On another note, germany looks quite a good place, how big is shooting over there? We have shooters from our club going over to shoot there and I have an anschutz rifle. Which makes germany damn good in my books
Sounds funny ... I might look into that, I have all Fawlty Towers episodes on tape ... German laws considering weapons and shooting are very harsh. This kid shot 14 people at school about a year ago and since then the government has made the laws even more harsh. Shooting in general isn't that popular here though ... Cheers [DE]FreD_S
Why does everyone like soccer so much ? Hehe ... I can't find anything I like about watching 20 idiots running after aball and 2 trying to stop those 20 from shooting the ball into the goal ... but hey, everyone has their hobbies eh ? Cheers [DE]FreD_S
Firstly, cheers for answering my question and secondly, your written English is pretty damned good considering it's not your native language . If only my German was as good, heck I can only manage a few phrases.... Another question if I may, is there much crime in Germany? Where I was staying, in Dachau, the family I was staying with never bothered to lock their front door, or even lock their car parked in the street. Cycling was popular, and many people would cycle to the Dachau station and then get the train into Munich to work, yet they'd never chain their bikes up?! I thought it was great that people felt so certain they wouldn't be robbed (in fact all I saw of Germany was pretty nice tbh) but over here I think there are pretty much no places where you could afford to leave your car unlocked in the street for any length of time without some moron trying to steal it, and leave your bike propped up against a lamp post for the whole day, you must be kidding....
