Yeah the Les Paul's knee rest bit doesn't really fit well because it's shrunk, the SG was fine however.

The kramer for the PS2 is a bit tricky to rest on the knee too - they're just the wrong shape because they're shrunk versions of decent, fitting shapes. IRL an SG is a bit trickier to sit with than you'd think.

I managed to get through Lou the other day on hard, only took me a couple of attempts (but, I might add, I did try for about an hour a week or so ago without success). Haven't really bothered trying the last 3 (all except One, which I find fairly easy because I play it on a real guitar), I know that Raining Blood will be the most difficult though... Just working through getting 5*'s on hard now. :D

Incidentally, how was the 80's one? I never bothered with that one for some reason.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is, I've got GH, GHII & GH:80s on ps2 and use the old ps2 wired guitar. It fits on my knee really nicely and is comfortable for me to play. The new Wii controller is really bad for that as if I rest it on my knee I end up hunched over and it really hurts my back. I can't play standing up at home because of the location of the TV & sofa I'd have to have my head out of a Velux roof window.
Really? That's weird, pretty much anything I can actually play (on bass) I screw up really badly because my brain goes off and my hands move like they should, not like they have to for the game. I have to concentrate way more on those.
Not worth the money, unless you get it 2nd hand or something. There are no bonus tracks, and for some reason it's the easiest of the lot. They only bothered with 80s outfits for the guitar players too, everything else is exactly the same which was a bit of a let-down. Still it has some classics on it. I can't play 'Holy Diver' cos I end up in hysterics at the random lyrics.

I quite liked 80s, had some good songs on there, but it was just a cheap mod of GH2 really, but worth the money I payed for it IMO.

I know what you mean - the old ones just used to fit nicely for me too. Another confession I must make is that for the really difficult tracks I use a black SG from GH1, because the buttons have a much smaller action and I can jab 'em faster, and have a more delicate press too - with the newer buttons, especially on the new wireless ones, you need to give the button a good old squash before it registers, which ain't too clever for ripping through some of the really difficult stuff, or TTFATF.

That's weird. The version of one on GH is absolutely sublime though, on expert it's basically identical (aside from some trivial finger movement issues 'cause you've got 5 buttons rather than a 6*24 fret grid), so it's quite a simple transition.

Have you tried playing the bass-section on free play for a song? That might be a bit more instinctive for you, as a bass player.

Yeah, when doing co-op I'm usually the bass player and as long as I don't know the song well on bass I'm OK. If I know it I cock it up every time :duh:
Yeah that was my problem though, it was the same price as any other GH game (sans guitar) but was only an expansion pack. If you can get it cheap it's fun, but I thought I was mental to fork out so much money on it.

Clocked it on Easy, and medium has got me buggered. I only bought this game to see what it was like and ive enjoyed it. Time to sell a two week old game. Shame.

I really don't understand why you'd sell it. Games like Guitar Hero are mastered through practice, you don't need any skill to begin with. I was rubbish on easy when I first picked up GHII this Summer. I just kept going and although I'm only just getting to play stuff on Expert now, I'm beating all my friends who were way better than me before. The only reason why, is because I practice more than them.

But then I can't grasp how you kids sell everything you buy within minutes, only to later go buy another (the amount of people who bought a Wii when they first came out only to sell them, then go and buy another one later...) it's insanity to me!

Yah. I was absolutely pants when I first started, but within a couple of hours I'd moved up to the medium/normal songs, and within a couple of days it was hard and up. It helps that I'm left-handed, but I'm ambidextrous enough that I play guitar the correct way round, so I'm much better at finger movements than most guitar players of my standard (but my picking is seriously lacking with my fingers, since I don't use my right hand as much). So GH was a perfect move tbh, since the right is all strum, and the left is all about quick movement. :D

btw, a good training song for expert is Jordan on Hard - it'll take a while to get used to, but once you get used to moving about with the song so quickly, it'll be a big help. Bark at the Moon is quite a good one for fast chord-muted strum type playing too. :D

Oh God, I bet that means you're really good in the Battles when you get lefty flip. I hate you :p

Actually I'm totally useless, I can't be doing with the whole lefty-flip thing. That's about the only one that gets me off though - I seem to be really good with the power-one where they start flashing. I suppose I could practice some more and get really good at lefty though... :D

OK I un-hate you then ;) That one messes it up every time for me. Yeah the Amp Overload one is fine, what really bugs me though is when I'm playing one of the bosses and I keep getting amp overloads to throw over to them & they get lefty flip every time. Gaaaaaaah! Oh and that damn gap in the Devil Battle threw me the first couple of times. What a waste! Much like wasting my star power on Rock 'n' Roll All Nite, I do it whenever I play it again for the first time in ages. Makes me sooo angry.

I might give Jordan a go on Hard, it was my first 8* on scorehero on Medium :) I tried going back to the ps2 ones the other night and it was all too weird. Might give GHIII a break before going back I think :)

Is GH2 worth buying aside from the extra songs? Or will it seem a bit like a step back from GH3? I fancy seeing if I can get a disc only version on teh bay.

If you're enjoying GHIII yeah, I'd say go for it. GH & GHII had better songs (imo) although there were some dodgy covers of good songs too. The main differences are:

When you get enough Star Power it sort of erupts from the fretboard and can be really distracting
It doesn't show you the note counter
You don't get those distracting 50 note streak! things
HOPOs aren't done by hand so are pretty much available on any notes that are close together
The star power meter is waaaay easier to see, I forget on GHIII that mine is full sometimes cos it just doesn't show up enough
    No battles obviously
    Clive Winston ;)

GH1 and 2 are probably worth a pickup if you really love the series, but #2 was better than #1 tbh. As hexxy says, HOPO's are much more difficult to do, I actually never really bothered on #2 unless it was unavoidable.

Clive Winston rules, I can't believe they got rid of him.

When I started it (with GH2) it took me a couple of songs on easy to get used to the basics of the game, after about 3 setlists I changed to medium as I was finding easy pretty easy, then I just played that for ages until I 5 stared them all. Took me a while to get used to using my pinky, then I started on hard. One good way to practice is to find a mate who doesn't mind making a fool of themselves, I was playing with him on expert while everyone else wussed out and played on medium. We sucked, but because it was face off it didn't matter, and after I did that for a couple of nights with a couple of beers I found I had improved a lot.

I recommend you get GH2, it's a lot of fun, it's a shame they didn't port GH1 as well, you can download the GH1 set lists on GH2, but you don't get any of the bonus songs and some of those are awesome.

As far as HO/POs go, on GH1 is was pretty hard to do, GH2 was made easier and GH3 is stupidly easy which is a shame IMO, you can hammer on a note way before it comes up and it will play at the right time. Bit of a step backwards.

whats up with the sudden death thingy in battle mode online? i was playin it against someone and i never loswe during the song and never win during the song. it always goes to sudden death and no matter what i always lose in that. even if i hit all the notes. why does it do that? how do you actually win it. we both do it at the same time and im hittin my notes and my sudden detah is comin down and his is still at the top. it really ticks me off as during the song i do way better than the other person its just that they dont do bad enough to fail.

The Death Drain happens in Battles (any, not just on-line) when the song gets near the end and no-one has won yet. Any Attacks are turned into Death Drains. What is probably happening is that they get the attack first so you get drained. Could be a split-second thing. Try saving an attack it could help :)

I have to admit I really don't like the Battles, I don't have fun with them even when I win, they just make me angry.

I dont like those battles either, although it did make me laugh when I did something and it reversed my brothers colours around and confused the hell out of him. Me and my bro like doing Face off and just do that most the time.

Me too - I'd rather just play the song through on face-off (usually pro) and see who wins that way. The whole battle thing is a bit meh, and you don't even get to hear the song all the way through... :(
