I'm a Texan and I hunt quail and pheasant. At the the age of eight my father and uncle taught me how to shoot a gun under strict supervision and discipline. Our guns rarely left their cases unless for proper hunting, skeet, or cleaning.

When we were hit by Hurricane Rita we evacuated but immediately came back to our homes to protect our properties. Before Rita, hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, that sent a lot of people over into our area permanently and our crime rate rose in just a few weeks over 50%. It became so bad we went from a near no crime town to a crack street wandering, pimps and ho's playground. After Rita many homes were scavenged and many crime deaths took place.
We sat on our front property with guns lights and electric generators and protected our property and had a few run ins. Our neighbor even shot a guy in the foot that refused to stop from entering the house and take his things and spoke vulgar things about what he would do to his two daughters.
The whole point here is that despite how the media reports events like this they never really tell you just how bad it really gets. For instance my family and I went to Louisana to help a friend with his home and business and before the Army blocked off all access to the beaches we saw thousands of bodies wash up to shore. In Rita 100s of people died in our city. People went mad because of it. It was just like a zombie apocalypse. Accept the dead wandering around and biting people. I've seen how easy the world can go crazy and police and goverment lose control of protecting their people. I believe in certain personal situations and situations on a large scale we should be able to protect our selfs and take part in regulated hunting.
I believe this is a window to taking guns away from the American people. By the way I live in a large city, white collar guy, loving the tech world. I'm not a hillbilly shooting cans off fences and drinking moon shine. What do you think about this "Act" below? Agree or not I would like to know what "Outsiders" and Americans think.

This is Obama gun control by secrecy.
Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the
House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing &

Record of Sale Act of 2009.

We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program...
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the
    radar.

To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
    It is registered.
    You are fingerprinted.
You supply a current Driver's License.
You supply your Social Security #.
You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their
    choosing.
Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the
right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people
are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters
in your family - pass this along.

Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on KHOW 630 a..m. in the morning. He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about it and "spring into action". Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group
like the Colorado Rifle Association, hunting associations,
gun clubs and especially the NRA.

This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of
guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no
defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal
is accomplished before anyone realizes it. (Did Obama
promise transparency? It seems his motives are more and more
transparent while his methods are hidden in back
    rooms.)

This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.
If you take my gun, only the criminal will have one to use against me.

HR 45 only makes me/us less safe. After working with convicts for 26 years

I know this bill, if passed, would make them happy and in less
    danger from their victims.

    http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/show

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45
Please.. copy and send this out to EVERYONE in the USA ..

So let me get this straight, you're upset that they're going to make you register your details and say that you'll submit to mental and physical evaluation if you want to own a device who's only purpose is to kill things?

First up, the please copy and send thing really detracts from the issue.

    And from the link:

IMO this is being pushed by the anti-Obama crowd, who really have him down as a gun grabber. It's hard to find an impartial study on his opinions.

This is pretty much in place almost the world over, in some form or another. No one else is complaining.
I hear stories about some of the worst communal riots in the history of man taking place in India, yet I've never met someone who values his right to self-defense more than public safety.

I support controlled gun ownership as a hunter myself.

I cannot fathom why a government would allow guns to be handled by the public without some method of tracing where they go and who they are owned by.

Get over it, those sort of rules are the only way to keep guns in civilian hands. Too many people in the USA are overly liberal with their weapons. Why do you have such a problem with it? You have stated you have good gun practice and knowledge, and keep them safely. How would it affect you then? It sounds like you already comply to all the proposed regulations? Or have you got something to hide?

This isn't a slow way of taking guns out of civilian posession, more just a way to put a bit more responsibility on gun owners, so that everyone treats them as the extremely dangerous articles that they are. That way - with people being a bit more conscious about what they own, hopefully these many teenagers with mental problems won't be able to go and do something stupid, merely because it is quite simply too easy to buy a gun in America - and that's a simple and obvious fact.

Nope, not seeing anything wrong with the bill.

    • It is registered.
This is a sensible approach if your country is going to allow gun ownership, at least keep track of the guns and who owns them. I simply fail to see this as unreasonable.
    • You are fingerprinted.
Again as above, there has to be a method of proving identity.
    • You supply a current Driver's License.
I assume this wil only be required if you own a drivers license :) however it is just a means of verifying your identity.
    • You supply your Social Security #.
      As above.
    • You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing.
Quite a sensible approach, I don't imagine you would like just any nut job to own a gun, would you?
    • Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
Well, duh, you need to maintain a record of gun ownership otherwise someone with a clean record can simply buy the guns and pass onto friends who don't.
    • There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
I don't even think I need to comment on this point.
    • They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.
Not only would this ensure less accidental shooting, it would allow the police to verify that you still infact maintain ownership of the registered guns, and have not sold or passed them on to someone else.

If you are going to allow private gun ownership, the simple truth is you have to do what you can to prevent the guns getting into the wrong hands.

You are then left with the question of how can you achieve this.
    • Vet the potential owner, criminal record and psychological assessment.
    • Verify the identity of the person being vetted.
    • Ensure the guns will be stored safely, and away from children.
    • Carry out regular checks to ensure the guns are still in the ownership of someone who has been vetted and authorised to own them. And that they are still stored safely.
    • Prosecute heavily anyone not following some very simple safety rules.

The problem now in the US is that there are so many guns already in circulation, that any action now is simply too late to rectify.

Alright, nit pick as much as you like, it doesn't detract from my point on how easy it is to get a weapon in the states.

+1 I'm british so not like I have a say on this but certainly looks sensible, it allows you to own a gun if you want, doesn't ban them, it just controls their sale and distrobution and just looks like common sense.

Yeah, but I'm with yoda on that one; there are way too many guns in the US to make any attempt to control them successful.

Hell, it's possible to get them here and we have some of the strictest gun laws in the world.

    Here's how I feel:

    It is registered.
Sure, I can live with that.

    You are fingerprinted.
No damn way; there's a reason you don't just fingerprint every citizen in the country regardless of them being innocent or not.

You supply a current Driver's License.
You supply your Social Security #.

These two I'm cool with, as there has to be a way to ID you.

You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing.

This is the big one, firstly, why physical? Will some people be deemed uncapable of correctly using a firearm based on their build? If so I'm assuming they are the same people who could really rely on one for self defense.
Mentally seems almost useless; how many people who commit gun crimes are mentally unstable? The odd school shooter I guess. And what would they be screening for? My Dad believes that anyone who wants to own a gun should automatically be disallowed one on those grounds.

Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
$25 is too much, and losing the right to own a firearm is harsh, it'd be easy to make a mistake / bungle the paperwork etc.

Fingerprinting I am against because I don't trust the government, for many reasons including sheer incompetence. But that's another thread.

You destroy your wrists with a gun you can't handle, that's your problem. I'm not going to stop you, same thing if my gran decides to buy a skateboard.

And how do they test you psycologically? A multiple choice test? An hour session with a psychologist? Try finding a practical worthwhile way of finding the crazies and we'll talk. (Got anything Nexxo?)

And guns can be had cheap. Not just Saturday night specials either; you can buy a Nagant for $65 or a Gerand for $150. Good quality cheap guns that have legit purposes. I agree there should be punishments, but a lifetime ban on owning firearms is IMO, too harsh.

Most of it seems sensible till the physical and mental exam at anytime they desire. Everything else is information they mostly already have.
And in all reality, this will do very little to stem the flow of any violent crime being committed in the US.

If you were to ask me, I'm okay until the mental/psychological test thing, we shouldn't have to subject to tests and tons of red tape just for self defense.

Oddly enough, in places with strict gun control, there are more crimes, places where there aren't less crimes occur...

My opinion, fine, just don't categorize gun owners like they're all killers, they're not, most are just people not wanting to get shot.

Let me ask you, if you were a criminal, would you rob a place knowing that the whole neighborhood has guns? Or rob a place where NO ONE has a gun?

what the hell will the government do with your finger prints? other than rule you out as the criminal... as i said before, my gov has been doing finger printing for the last... decade or 2 i think, nothing wrong has come from that...

its your problem if the person that has destroyed his wrist has lined his next shot with an innocent...

    psychology? Talk to Nexxo

now i see what your problem is... your guns are to cheap! if you need a gun for legit purposes then you wont mind if i make sure that you do not deviate from that purpose and start randomly killing people...
