I recall reading that some Muslim women living in western nations are expected to be virgins at marriage to their traditional husbands (often arranged). They have their fun in school, etc. and then have the surgery done before being wedded. No way I could go that far. I balked at having breast reduction surgery. <shivers>
Thanks for that wonderfully insightful comment. Is this any different than foot binding, lip plates, or any other form of body mutilation that's practiced all over the world. Different culture, different standard of beauty. -monkey
I originally read about this in the London Times some weeks ago. Not as if it's restricted to the US.
Supermonkey, you are right.. Seems that everywhere you turn there are people differing from the "normal white folks" Watched a programme on National Geographic the other day about extreme body modifications. Horimono, Scarification, Padung tribe girls, lip plates, foot binding and so forth are considered a norm amongst their kinsmen. For the rest of us we will never understand.
I never thought of that. To go through that just so their husband thinks they're a virgin at marriage, I'd hate to think what would happen if he found out she wasn't. Breast reduction surgery scares me too.. sometimes this whole "Being a woman" thing.. is really, really crappy.
Elective surgery is just that. However, I think they should regulate it, as well as provide education about both normal bodies and the effects the surgery can have-I've gotten more advice going to get my ears/eyebrow/face pierced than some of these people get. I'm pierced (00/00 in the ears), tattooed and branded. Probably will try scarification too. For some people, it will always be something they want to do, so why not make it as safe as possible. Now if I support it, no, I don't. There are many things I do not support that I see as plain eventualities. Therefore, if you can't stop it, make it as safe as possible.
only around the world Plastic surgery is stupid in 90% of the cases and should be only for those who really feel bad as who they are and not those who just want to look even better than they already do. Of course it would be impossible to test everyone so this is never going to happen, but meh...
I think the point is that the surgery is being misused not that it's worthless or absurd. In the case of uterine or pelvic prolapse, I would be extremely disturbed if it was not considered an option. Seriously, look that up on google image search, A vagina penis is a damn good reason for surgery in my book. In my opinion though all of this frivolous surgery only helps to expand and fund the practice so that people who really need it will have better treatment options.
The things some women will contemplate doing to themselves, in the name of vanity. Glad to be a bloke tbh.
I think it's more to do with honour and tradition. A lot of women want to bleed on the first night of their marriage, especially those with a religious background. If you break the hymen doing whatever (sex, tennis, etc.) then it makes that night less special.
It aint just the chicks mate, guys can get pec implants, bicep implants, liposuction, ab implants etc etc etc. to quote the great Austin Powers "That's not MY cock-pump..."
Call me old fashioned, but men don't fluff themselves up and worry about their looks, "what you see is what you get". Vanity for a bloke is about as useful as mens nipples (what they for again?)
Erm, they do, I know loads of people who care about how they look and are very successful because of it.
If that were true Bowflex would have gone bankrupt a long time ago. We may not all adhere to the exact same ideal, but we men are are all doing what we can to make ourselves look like the type of guy that we think women want. And if it's not to gain the attention of a woman, it's to establish our dominance over territory (or in the case of Muscle Beach, both). In some ways, we're no different than the our distant cavemen ancestors. -monkey
There's athing in the telegraph today saying (officially) women are atracted to wealth in men, and men are attracted to beauty in women; so men don't spend your money on looks' improvement - flout it for all it's worth
