Just ordered CPU/mobo/RAM/GPU, already have the rest.

    PC Specification will be :

    Corsair 800D
    i5 2500k
Corsair H50 push/pull with noctua fans
    MSI GTX 560
    Corsair 8GB 1600mhz
    Intel 80GB SSD
    F3 1TB

    Cooling :

1x 120mm noctua on the back
    2x noctua 120mm on the h50 in push/pull
2x noctua 120mm on the roof next to the h50
1x 140mm xigmatek cooler at the bottom
    1x 140mm cooling the two hdd's.

My question is..will the h50 be enough to overclock the i5 2500k to a decent speed, or should i look at buying something else, i dont have the funds to go full watercooling atm otherwise i would, although the MSI gtx560 has a custom PCB so apparantly cant be watercooled in the future anyway.

Do i sack the h50 off and go for a Frio/Dark rock Advanced ? Not had an air cooler for a while...

    Cheers in advance.

The H50 will be enough for 5ghz. The SB chips are very cool running chips, so unless you are very unlucky and have to push a ton of volts through yours, it should be just fine.

the h50 will be fine no worries, even with the noctua fans on, which aren't particularly good on rad's, i'm sure you can get a decent 4.5Ghz overclock, depending on the good ol' chip lottery of course

The H50 will perform very nicely indeed. SB chips run nice and cool.

The question i have though, is can you use the 1156 mounts to fit sandybridge?

The mounting holes are in the same location, so yes.

The noctua fans i have on the case are the Noctua NF-S12B FLX, whereas the ones i have on the h50 (i was told these were better for rads) are the NF-P12.

Already have the h50..have had it since release. Was worried it might not be enough for a decent overclock.

ive got an h50 cooling the 2500k in my sig. @ 4.5ghz it hovers at an even 60 degrees under prime95 load. it never breaks 55C gaming. mine is matched with a high speed PWM delta fan which runs at 300RPM at idle. cool and quiet.

    a very good match IMO.

Are the closed loop (H50/H70/Kuhler) actually better than a decent air cooler?

beats the h50 hands down, but is beaten by the h70 by quite some way.

not really, there about the same, although the h70 is a bit expensive in my opinion, the Kuhler and H50 are reasonable priced, depends on your requirements if you have tall ram, small case, then a h50/70 is pretty good, on the other hand unless your going full watercooling, I'd go with a frio or NH D14 Thermalright Silver Arrow, although obviously they are a bit excessive for sandy bridge, but if you want to really push your chip and want something quiet then there pretty good.
