"When members of the Last Stage of Delirium hacking group won a contest sponsored by security firm Argus in April 2001 they were -- well, not quite delirious with joy -- but certainly very happy.

The Polish hackers had not only earned the respect of their peers in the security industry for hacking into a Web server protected by Argus' Pitbull software, but they had also won a nice chunk of prize money -- £35,000 ($48,000).

    Or so they thought.

According to the contest rules, the prize was to have been paid no later than May 15, 2001. But as of this month, Argus still hasn't paid up.

Meanwhile the Argus executive who ran the contest, former CEO Randy Sandone, has left the company. His successor is frantically trying to resolve the problem."
