I am looking to build my second computer with a budget of $2,000
This computer will be mainly used for Video/Photo Editing & light gaminhg
I have been researching since the last 2-3 months and I have found a base point.
I need help let me know if anyone is running a similar setup and what do you think of the build and do you guys foresee any issues thanks

    Key Points:
    *Mainly based on X58 Chipset
    * Will stick with Asus and waiting for them to release a 2nd/3rd Generation X58 Motherboard to include USB3.0/Sata6GB. Even tho they canceled the P6X58 Motherboard
*Willing to wait Q2 for the Core i9 LGA 1366 Processor
*Only purchased the case and I am confused as to where to start since new Graphics cards, CPU & MBs are just around the corner.looking to have it finished by Q2 2010

    Processor: Core i9 (Q2 2010) Changed from a Core i7 920
The 920 Processor has been out for a while and the DO stepping would be a good look. The Core i9 is just around the corner and would hate to have the 920 purchased with the Core i9 just around the corner. I hope the prices are not to far off from the 920......

Motherboard: Asus P6TD Deluxe LGA 1366
The 3rd revision in the Asus P6 line. Older versions have been confirmed to work with Mac OSX Snow Leopard but unfortunately this newer version has not been tested yet. As noted by the Key points above I am on the fence waiting for Asus to announce another X58 Motherboard to
    replace the P6X58 they cancelled

Ram: Corsair Dominator 6GB Kit 1600 DDR3 Triple Channel Ram
Good Solid reviews I dont know if its the fasted but solid nontheless. For video editing I may
need more and probably better mem timings. What do you think..?

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 5870 Videocard or ATI Radeon 5970
Assuming I can find one of these videocards. Only problems I might run into with these videocards is.....
Length: Using a Full ATX Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case should fit fine
Power: Might not be enough for the 750W Power Supply

Power Supply: Seasonic X750W 80Plus Gold
Great Reviews, Quiet, Modular Design, had issues with other PS in the best so I naturally wanted the best. Probably wont work with the Radeon 5970 which can suck 300-400 watts alone and 47Watt idle. Could downgrade to Seasonic M12 unit for 850 Watts if needed

Case:Cooler Master ATCS 840 My First Purchase
This thing is huge and will definitely will fit the ATI Radeon 5970 even though it is 11.7 inches in length. Full ATX. Love the features
Removable MB tray, CPU Cooler cutout, Cable management etc blah blah

just a quick update for ya.

hackintosh has been taken down and lost a legal battle against apple, so im guessing it is no longer avaliable.

Rethink your CPU, the i9 will be coming out at a nice $999 which'll replace the i7 975 so look at the 975's pricing and you'll have your i9 :)

EDIT: The X750 PSU will run your 5970 perfectly, even if it sucks 300-400 watts you've still got about 300+watts left over on the 12v rail for all your other components which is plenty.

Rethink your graphics card also. ATI and Mac OSX aren't the best of friends at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I'd go with ATI also, but I've only ever gotten a hackintosh to work with nVidia based machines.

apple and nvidia had a major falling out over bumpgate, so now apple are shifting over to ATi.

Yeah that was Pyster.. or if your talking about the EFI-X which is the usb dongle that was featured in a Maximum PC a cpl issues back that used the EFI-X. They no longer sell the EFI-X in the USA and reports have come in that they have stolen code from the Mac OSX 86 Project community so I think I know what you mean.
This would be based on the Insanely Mac Community forums which provide kexts, Kernals, patches etc to make it work

Who thanks for the info haha Core i9 scrapped will not be paying this much
Yeah thanks I thought my other components like 2-3 hdds, 2 optical drives, MB, Fans etc would not be enough

I did see on Apple's website they offer ATI Radeon 4870x2 Graphics card as part of the Mac Pro setup/upgrade but I could only imagine

THanks again keep em coming you guys

Exactly, with a hacked OS, you have absolutely no support from Apple, which is fine for amateurs, but I imagine your clients won't be too impressed if something goes wrong, and they find out you're using non-Apple hardware.

be careful about using this professionally as its illegal and as a business this can be a very very serious.

if anyone questions your software been legit you could face an audit and then if found guilty get fined

    +1. Apple actually don't give a flying f*** about people making hackintoshes for themselves on the basis that;
    1. It's an absolute ton of work both to build and maintain. That means it's not something you do regularly to sell to other people.
    2. The person invariably already owns at least one Mac, usually more, and other Apple products.
    3. Personal builds don't tend to be for uses that displace Mac sales.
They'll never admit it publicly but that's the reason that they maintain Atom support in OS-X; they know that people are creating teeny-tiny netbooks which don't conflict with an existing Apple product. If you break the above conditions, however, Apple's litigious nature comes down on you like a ton of writs. This is why people like Psystar are so screwed; if you're helping other people to avoid paying for a Mac, Apple will hunt you down.

What you want to do here is avoid paying for a Mac Pro. That wouldn't be a (practical) problem if this was for personal use but if it's for business use you're in unpleasant waters.

Thought about buying a Mac and using Bootcamp for Windows 7 but the starting price and upgrade options are what is holding me back.
$2500-3000...Custom Built will be a little more than half that
This is still in the planning stages but if it came down to it and I had to choose I would go with a custom built before an official Mac.
Will mainly be using Pro Tools, Acid, Photoshop. The Mac OS X now seems like a headache as far as hardware compatibility issues etc. I will have to rethink things. Not really worried about Apple suing me I am not profiting or selling software and will be using a Snow Leopard Disc even though I might be breaking the EULA.
Was mainly interested in using Final Cut Express. I will have to look for other video editing alternatives when I get the chance.
I do realize the potential headaches with maintaining a hacked OS.
If anyone on here is running a hackintosh let me know of the common problems..?

Thanks for the input looks like I will be going custom PC all the way for the build and use for my professional use. I still might play around with MAC OSX but will not use for professional purposes.
Later in the future if I can afford a Mac Pro then maybe might purchase it maybe. that clears that up
