Hey everyone! After reading countless threads, I have decided to do a G5 mod, using my limited resources; $1000, a drill, a sander, and a jigsaw. The system will have; an i7 CPU, most likely the 920, A Gigabyte ATX LGA 1366 Mobo, 3 GB DDR3 RAM, A 8800 GTS 512 GPU, 2 500 GB SATA Hard disks, and a 650 watt psu. I'm planning on snagging a full G5 system on ebay for around $100, pawning off the old components for $200, and inserting the system. What I need right now is the advice of the wise ones, such as Cheapskate, Cyprio, and other fantastic modders.
I can't decide between using a mobo plate, or ripping of the stand-offs and JBWelding them on in the correct positions, and which way to go with the orientation; the cut a hole in the top of the G5 support tray and remove the hard disk rack, enabling me to put the PSU on the bottom, but forcing me to use a hard disk mount to the left of the case, or removing the psu case, mount the psu to the left, and inserting the hard disks where they belong. The first option enables me to re-use the pci slots, making my life easier. Please help, and enjoy the fun!:lol::lol:

Updates soon!

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

According to the project log rules, this will most probably be moved into the modding section, as its not strictly a project yet.

Okay, I've decided to mount it so that the atx mobo fits the pci slots; here's the plan:

For your images you only need to put the <img src= into Tags, or the box that asks for the url of the image. instead of using
[IMG]<a href="http://s486.photobucket.com/albums/rr230/monkey120101/?action=view&current=macg5undedit.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr230/monkey120101/macg5undedit.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Use the part i have made bold. So for this it would be the http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr230/monkey120101/macg5undedit.jpg part

This will then display the image inside the post instead of having to navigate away from the page.

Why put the PSU vertical, why not horizontal? I think thats an improvement for the airflow.

Sorry, but Project Logs is for works in progress. Planning and dreaming goes on in Modding (why do you think Ada NAS is not in Project Logs, hmmm? ;) ).

Once you have some pictures of actual work in progress (not just a pile of unmodded components) this thread will be moved back.
