I just downloaded this and went to click the exe but stopped! Something about sending information about your bank account etc through a hackers network just doesn't seem to ring right!! :duh:

Great idea though, first thing I thought was how cool it would be to be able to check my personal stuff at work with no worries of snooping :worried:

Well, it is open source. If you don't trust it, trawl through the code.
According to the site, the routers your traffic goes through can't access the information you're sending . It'd be a bit daft if they could.

True, but I would be guessing that these guys are far cleverer than most so could hide code that passes off info quiet well! Anyways, I am just not sure!

Why wouldn't you? All crackers do is bring software to people for free. They're not after making money, or market research, so I'd be inclined to trust them as much or more then most companies and sponsers myself.

Oh and fingers, TOR is not a hackers network, it's an anonymous peer network used by thousands of regular people who want or need privacy. Seriously, some maturity and common sense is lacking in this thread.

I was just voicing my concerns due to the source, Hacktivismo not TOR, TOR being just the network that makes your data anonymous, and stating I was not skilled enough to determine if this product is indeed safe!

Surely questioning the programs integrity shows I have some level of common sense! Instead of just diving in and entering my personal details, just so I can denounce your feeling that I lack maturity, which would show a serious lack of common sense!?

But I guess you are correct in your comment about a lack of maturity in this thread from the meaninglessly naming and shaming of users that are here to voice their concerns in a constructive environment and not jump blindly in to the next revolution to hit the internet !? ;)

nope, as browzar was IE with a different skin, this is portable firefox with integrated traffic encryption and anonymisation.

The Onion Router/Ring has been around as an open standard for quite a while now, and quite a few apps use it (Azureus, i believe uses this along with i2p) so the only thing i would be concerned about is the bowsers ability to render pages in a logical manner, only recently has the web calmed down after ff/ie wars. I can see this being useful to carry around on a key fob if using public workstations..

    Yep, Azureus uses TOR.

I don't know what all the fuss is about 'omgwtf1337haxx0rs!!!oneeleven'... I know a lot of guys happened to be 'hackers' back when 'Security Update for Windows' was something nobody even thought of. These guys code better and faster than any of my fellow students at uni. Yea, sure there are black sheep trying to hack YOU but most of 'em just try to give you programs for free you'd normally pay a lot for. I personally will give it a try. If it's as fast as Firefox... why not?

You didn't think of China, did you? ;)

For fear of starting the same debate again....

...This is great for places like China etc (I don't know any others actually). But is it possible to use this for dodgy acts such as child based nasty sites?

Only reason I ask is because you see and hear alot about it - which is mainly the media of course. But thinking about it, surely these sites aren't hosted under www.<insert-dodgy-name-here>.com.

I've had a quick play with this at work today and it seemed ok but I don't like the default theme and it's very slow (due to all trafic been encrypted etc). It's also quite big and is very easy to break. What I mean by break is that basically it's just firefox with some plug-ins and add-ons pre-installed. All you have to do is turn those off and your back normal firefox without any of the extra security. I would prefer something with the simplicty of browzar and the security of Torpark.

hmmm this might be useful at school where most good sites (except Bit-Tech) are blocked via the firewall

Are we also supposed to trust billion dollar corporations with what they install on our computers?

Why are you afraid of human rights activists? Unless you're part of a totalitarian dictatorship, I don't get it.
