    Thanks, all :)

I walked in to hand over my notice tonight and saw Lyndsey - told her what I was doing and she went 'Awwwww...Who's ass am I going to grab now?'

In all seriousness, supermarkets and public libraries (especially the one beside Trillians in Newcastle) are the best places to ogle pretty ladies...

Not that I condone any such behaviour.

    Congrats on the job penski!

Now I have just one question about the North-South divide. Is it really possible to live on under £12k pa in Gateshead? The research they did last year showed that it's impossible to live in Reading if you earn less than £22k pa.

If it is possible I'm going to sulk big time cos we're not allowed London Weighting (extra pay for living in an expensive area), yet people at our sister offices in Newcastle/Carlisle/Northallerton, etc... all get the same wages as us :grr:

Rent = £400/month for three people (one couple and me. but we're all unbelievable close friends so don't say anyhting about 'ewww...living with a couple'...hell, I introduced them) sharing a 3 bedroom end-of-terrace house in Walker (not Gateshead - gonna have to travel a bit further each day) with a nice sized garden, a garage, big rooms, big kitchen...

Of course It's possible to live on under £12k - look at how many unemployed yet living people there are.

For the next twelve months I'm actually going to be putting more than half of my wages into the bank and saving them...

...That is until I feel the gadget urge...

£400pm, 3 bedrooms, garden, garage?!?! Oh my God!!! :eeek: That's well cheap!!

Unemployed people didn't count as they get things like houses given to them (OK, after being on waiting lists and stuff), and there's always those earnings from a life of crime ;)

I actually put money aside every month just for my gadget habit (currently on around £200-300 every month)... if I didn't take it into account I would be stoney broke by now.

Hex - when you say 'Live on' do you mean 'Enough money to get by' or 'enough money to get buy and buy shiny things with buttons'?

Gadget plans for the next 12 months:

    28 or 32" TV
    A/V receiver and 5.1 system
    Decent CD player.
    Means of non-human-powered transportation.

    Actually I dunno yet...

Either a bike or a car...

    Bike - cheaper to run.

Car - can go further easier. Means I can visit my gf for weekends. can carry stuff.

Either way, I need a licence.

(Despite driving in autotests, the occasional sprint and auto/grasscross events for years, I still dunno how to drive on the road :eeek: )

I mean eat, keep a roof over your head, etc... £400pm will maybe get you a single bedroomed flat no garden or garage in a nasty part of town around here. That's if you're lucky. Every-thing's soooo expensive here, we're on a par with London, even Southampton's cheaper. It was costing me over £500pm just to travel to work and go out at one stage (not including money spent on booze, etc), that's the main reason I'm hermitising myself. £20 taxis just for a night out are a waste of money :(

    Well done Penski!

I work at a call-centre. Had a chap the other day from Belgium. Going to move back to London. Got on okay but he wanted sooo much money to come back. I kind of said (got to be careful!) beggars can't be choosers, etc. He said "Oh no, I'm not going to come back and live in the "Sticks"!" I nearly said.. &*$%@ Most of us do mate" but I refrained. Truth is we're all human be it north, south, east or west (Me West). All need dosh to live.

Still, he obviously hadn't got a gadget habit!! :hehe:

Gf's tend to prefer cars by the way! And that Golf GTI you handle means you can probably handle most everything else on the road anyway. My feeble advice, for what it's worth is, think Insurance.

    Cheers!

I drive the Golf onto trailers and occasionally for a fast lap of a sprint track.

    Nothing else.

As Sam likes to point out - I'm scared of it.

Getting a car means that I can drive to nottingham on friday after work, stay at my GFs and come back on the sunday....:D

Sounds a good idea! Did something similar myself - 3-1/2 hours each way :( Listened to a lot of tapes in the car for six months!

    :)
