I`ve seen the game all 1.4 GiG of it for download on a number of sites now :(,
It seems that either someone complied all that source code that was leaked (Which I doubt) or someone has got hold of the nearly finished article :/

I`ve also seen on a site which will remain undisclosed around 200 screenshots of the game being played :( I for one will not bother to download it i prefer to wait and play the finished article tbh.

Anyone else got Info regarding this?

    The real deal is...

The Source Leak and the Game Leak are two different things.

The source which was (apparently) stolen was only of the game engine. The original leak was NOT compilable, but it wasn't long till a couple of programming groups compiled it, created a small map and distributed it. This is approximately 11 MB.

It has also come to light that there were 9 copies of a 'HL2 Beta' created, containing the demos seen at e3. Inevitabley, these too got leaked/stolen/whatever by warez groups are is also being distributed. This is approximately 1.4 GB

I feel bad for the Valve development team who have spent five years on the project, but surely someone must have been responsible for security there and obviously weren't doing their job properly.

Why did machines that I'm assuming had the complete beta versions on them even have internet access? That's just playing with fire...

Five years for developing a software is too much time and this is especially true for games.
In five five years technologies associated with multimedia hardware change a lot and this means developers have to update the source code to handle new hardware capabilities.
This is a big waste of time and resources and reduces incomings.

I think a lot of Valve's people have taken to much holidays instead of working :eyebrow:

It is a long time but its an investment. I'm sure the HL2 engine will be used for other new games from Valve and probably licensed to others , the same way id did with Quake resulting in loads of FPS clones, some good, most bad.
