News Half Life 2 leak means no launch for X-mas

Vivendi Universal Entertainment has canned the X-mas launch of Half Life 2 in response to last week's leak of source code onto the Internet.

In a statement today, the games publisher said that Half Life 2, an expected blockbuster, will now contribute to 2004 results.

Hmmm - my conspiracy sense is tingling... Is this just a smokescreen to cover the fact the game may not be ready yet? Makes you think, Huh?

We will have to wait a few days and find out if the story is true of a leaked version. In my travels i havent come across any downloads of it. But it seems that the official response is that its been leaked

I want to hit the hacker who did it for delaying the game even further

/me slaps each and every person working there.

No i think its ready, just now they have to spend the next 5 months patching the bloody source code to make it more secure.

Ok I am confused why does the source code being leaked delay the release, I haven't read lots about it (i'll be honest).

But surely they only stole the data that was of course backed up?

I dont get it, anyone?

 

Ok, just some examples.
If someone have the code , he can modify it creating a backdoor to the houndredthousand of player's computers, leading to online security dangers, cheating and also starting legal issues against Valve.

 

This sound like a lie to me.
The file floating around was like 30mb compressed that expand to 160mb of text source, meaning about 2 millions line of code.
Even for a big company this is a lot more than 1/3, probably it is the whole thing...... if it's real.

 

I've also heard that the pre-release full game trialer thing has also been leaked. So valve have royally f****d it up this time. valve is on a steeeeep and slippery slope.
