i would some what agree with the OP. while HL2 was a great game is not by far my favourite. In terms of the HL Universe. 1. HL 2.EP2 3. HL2 4. EP1 But of course my favourite games are Deus Ex and Freespace 1&2
I'm with you, and tristan. To me Fallout 3 and Oblivion are very similar. I absolutely love the games but it was ruined for me by the quest structure. They are real feasts for the eyes and so well put together. But they (both) were so perfect when I was having an absolute blast playing through the 'main quest', but then the main quest ends because it's so short... Once that was over, I was left with countless 'side quests' and I almost instantly lost motivation to do them. It seemed so pointless because I wasn't working towards anything. As for Halflife 2, it's one of the best FPS's I've played to be fair, and I loved the physics based puzzles. If I wanted just pure run and gun, there is always the Unreal Tournament games. My only gripe is that there weren't all that many weapons and not enough explosive ammo / grenades. It really spoiled the game for me because I wanted to be trigger happy and blowing stuff to smithereens but the game forced me to play differently. I also thought that although it was good, it wasn't quite the WOW! experience that the first game was. It did have it's moments though.
I forgot to include this gripe. There was no satchel charges or trip mines, baiting enemies and running around a corner and setting up a trap was a reet laugh in of itself. Or planting 5 charges to take down a gargantuan. Those things were mad. 10 rockets to kill and they ran faster than you
I don't think Half Life 2 can be listed as one of the best titles of all time because it still isn't finished.
That doesn't make much sense; HL2 was a complete game. That's like saying Star Wars: A New Hope wasn't a good film as the story continued.
Yep. For me, Duke Nukem 3d is one of the best when it comes to this kind of stuff. That game knew what people wanted... It had all kinds of weapons, and the novelty stuff too like laser trip mines, the shrink ray gun, and some other stuff.
I bet I'm older than you, and I bet I've been playing video games longer than you. I'm playing HL2 again for the third time. You are wrong. (puts fingers in ears: la la laaaa laala laaa)
Its not really a very clever list that one you linked anyway - Warcraft 3 nowhere on the list despite the fact its still played by incredible swathes of people yet is 11 years old. Deus Ex which I havent played, but have heard from any other source ever is fantastic is way down. The top two are very very old games which arent played much anymore by anybody, suggesting to me the guy who wrote this is living in a retrospective haze and not managing to compare what an older game was against what a newer game is. In short I think the entire list needs some work
That's hell of a lot more good things than I've seen on most single player FPS-games. Wafflesomd: Look at the number of replies. Quite many, it turns out. Also thanks for you input, really contributed to this thread!
Apart from porting to UNIX/OpenGL platforms and upgrading the Half Life 2 engine to the latest (EP2) version last month...oh and putting a load of new achievements in there.
and the fact that valve seem to be the only big developer left who wont charge you for DLC, look at TF2 at release and now, even L4D has new missions.
