you da man cosmo! my sentiments exactly! (this isn't youtube by the way do try and read what you type.)
HL2 is honestly the greatest game I have ever played, and im sure always will be. HL1 was just boring... you're running around a building, shoot, run. Shoot, run. Shoot, run. Just goes on and on like that for 10 hours of sheer boredom.
I guess there really is no accounting for taste. HL1 set the formula, it's actually a bit strange that you enjoyed HL2 but not HL1. They're steps in the same evolution.
Well, I did enjoy HL1 to some extent... but I played HL2 before I played HL1 which I guess kinda spoiled it a bit. Out of the two, HL2 beats it hands down for me.
I never ever got into HL2, i got bored of it pretty quickly. I have since re-downloaded it on MAC, but not given it a go yet, but frankly, couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Sam
in response to comments like these about Gordon not having weapons and combat training. In the first game, there is a combat training mission which is where Gordon learns to "fight". Secondly, he's wearing the HEV suit, which basically enhances his combat skills and provides "armour" and "health".
and you start off with a heavy metal bar with a hook on the end, then a pistol, then a shotgun. Its a very slow progression really, and you can only face down big enemies with the super guns late in the game.
It's a slow progression to let you familiarize yourself with the game. They can't start you off with a million combine soldiers with bombs everywhere can they :S All games start slow and slowly build up, it's the way they work. That's a crowbar
No no no nooooooo, i didnt mean that as a bad thing. I meant it in its defence as a scientist against the world, how you go from bloke with glasses to uber pwnage man. Its a reasonable pace of progression. Start of small ad work your way up to ....the gluon gun I wanted to describe the crowbar instead of actually say crowbar, to emphasize your low-end pwning skills at the start. Theres no training needed to bop something on the head with a crowbar
To me, HL2 was an alright game. Got a bit too repetitive to me and never bothered to finish it. Done that a few times as well.
now this thread has gone quiet all the other non-believers are coming out of the woodwork. Scurry forth my crevice dwelling chums! Seriously hl2 is pretty dull :/
I think when it came out, it was the best thing around and is still playable today. I agree with your comment that it is easy (even on 'hard') for an experienced FPS player but there are many highlights. Ravenholm was genuinely scary with limited ammo and those spooky ****ers climbing the drainpipes! Nova Prospekt with the Pheromones controlling the antlions was inspired. Also, I think the whole thing had a terrific sense of place which is a really difficult thing to achieve in any game, making you feel as if you are 'there' It has it faults but it has many noteworthy aspects as well.
Aye good point. I see it overwhelmingly form a hl1 fan's perspective and how the two titles differ is my own pet dissappointment. Maybe Portal 2 coming 2011 means episode 3 is coming soon? lol who am I kidding. Heavy Rain! and I havent even played it! ....seriously, fps wise? hl1 back in the day, Stalker SoC when it came out, erm not much since then. Very very fun would apply to a few titles, but not many have had me engrossed. Oh wait Dead Space was brill. Spooks by the numbers quite often but I liked the bits-'o-this-bits-'o-that monsters and when you died you got to see your character get chopped up into bits. Not many games go that far. Only got a 3rd of the way through with a replay and completion bonuses though, not much replay value. I guess an unusual and fresh plot setting and a high difficulty curve keep my attention. Guess that explains my rediculous ragging of left4dead 1 and 2; you against death at every turn, and 4 player fps co-op is an addictive formula. Plus I love bill <3
