Master Chief is back to finish the fight against the Covenant and the Flood. Riyad jumps inside the Master Chief's combat suit to find out whether Halo 3 is a fitting conclusion to the series.

 

He's playable by player #2 on co-op. The other two characters (#3/4) are both the same race.

 

Wow, I wouldn't have expected it to score so high; all my friends who have it seem really disappointed. I didn't live up to anyone's hopes.

I suppose that's the problem with games these days - they get so much hype, people expect things from them that they simply can't deliver.
Halo 2 (and 1, although I'd already completed it co-op) made me buy an Xbox.
So far, it doesn't look like Halo 3 is going to make me buy a 360. If I could get a bundle with Halo 3 for like £200 then maybe, but at the moment, I think I'll leave it for a while. After all, I have my PC.

So about 2 years until it's released to PC?

 

Not a suprising score. Halo isn't about the story for me, it's about the really great multiplayer and co-op modes.

Yeah that's the thing, a lot of people who are bitching and whining about it not living up to expectations only have themselves to blame because they were the ones who allowed themselves to get hyped up about the game and give themselves the idea of the perfect game that nothing could live up to. I didn't follow any of the hype this time around, I watched a few videos here and there, read a few previews on the new features, but I didn't have the over expectations of the game. That's why I loved Fable and that's why I love Halo 3.

I really enjoyed the game, but for me, the original Halo is still the best over all, especially the length of the game, as Halo is a long game with huge levels.

Multiplayer is awesome on Halo 3, and im glad i bought it, its actually made me use my 360 again which has been pretty dormant till Halo 3.

I wasnt a halo fan boy when i approached this but had done the reading to find out the story of what happened in the first 2 so that i could enjoy the story more in the final episode. My mate Jimmy got hold of the game on day of release and a couple of us went to his place to play it from 3 when he got home from work, needless to say it was completed just after 1.30am which i felt was short, and having watched the video scene after the credits have rolled also left us wondering if

there might be a 4th, as masterchief was still alive and popped into stasis "until he was needed".

Overall i was really disappointed, all the lads said that i probably wouldnt like the game but they were all fanboys so loved every minute. The grapics belonged on a ps2 or something, i was really shocked at how bad they were and the cut scene quality of visuals was a mixture of a well rendered masterchief set on a shocking background with as Riyad metioned, poor facial animations on any of the other characters.

Whilst the multiplayer was good fun on live, personally, i'd buy a game for an entire experience and this game wasn't good enough online to make me want to buy it when the graphics were left to be soo poor IMHO for a 'top end' title with the graphical capabilities of the xbox360, especially seen as bungie is owned by big bill if my research is correct, an ironic situation i find.

I'd only have given it a 3-4/10, but then my mates said that i should just play the original halo, as that is a better game of which i wouldnt be disapointed.

but for a 360 to maintain playable framerates during multiplayer, they ought to have some sub-bar graphics compared to a quad-core GTX PC.

as a Halo PC fan, i can't say im not interested in the storyline. so i watched the ending on youtube. an average ending, but isn't this is how trilogies work? you play the amazing first game, then the second was a disappointment, then you play the average third which finishes with a sound ending.

on youtube, there is a legendary ending after credits. it's worth having a look, i bet Bungie has used this as another marketing opportunity for a remake on Marathon games.

 

You've got to love the "exclusive to xbox" tag. Once microsoft is done milking the xbox owners it will come out for the pc. Good news for us pc gamers

i mean, come on 640? even my Sempron computer can do 1280x800 on Halo 2.

and the facial animation is a bit last genre, i agree. after seeing how HL2 and even a strategy game such as World in Conflict work their facial magic

I will admit the game needs AA, but PS2 graphics? What are you drinking/smoking? Either that or you need to go and get an eye test (seriously).

I have noticed that the game is a lot more fun and better on Legendary then any other mode. Also finding the bonus' like

Someone should put spoilers into mrb_no1 post, it talk's about the ending, it may be unlikely here but some people haven't completed it.

Plus Bungie sayed on a post in there forums about how the 360 coudl'nt handle the lighting effects they where using and also anti-aliasing, that's why there is'nt any, so Bungie picked lighting, either way Bungie was always going to lose, because people always whinge about everything and anything.

I agree with your rating but I still love the campaign, short maybe but it's fun cruising about ina chopper and driving over poeple, 4 choppers in a line, looks awesome. Then the fact of the Meta game type, where you do the points scoring, it's cool.

for MS to say their wont be a 4th is like George Lucas saying that Star Wars will never be released on DVD. if MS is smart, they will develop multiplayer only games from now on though, cause the series was like the matrix, the first movie was amazing then the stories just got worse. the matrix was smart enough to end it at 3. lets hope they don't beat a dead horse with a 4th. but i know they will. cause how can they not with how much money they made off this game.

i have to say i think the halo fan community is why the game wasn't as good as it could have been. simply because once the second one came out, as bad as it was, people still flocked to it like a fly to crap. the second one was so boring i gave up like 3/4 of the way through the game. i forced myself to keep playing just because i keept telling myself that it had tog et better.

maybe i'm a little bit biased. i just cant do multi-player with a console. so maybe its my fault to think that they could follow up an awesome story line with another at least good one.

 

Myself, I would have only given in an 8. Then again, I don't recognise Forge as being that inventive or fantastic - Gmod invented that in a better way, much faster and with a much smaller team.

The graphics are also not that great. The engine needs AA and vastly improved facial animations. In terms of out and out gameplay, the singleplayer game is good, bordering on great. The co-op is fun too - though the graphics suffer much more from a VASTLY decreased draw distance. Multiplayer is amazing, but I don't honestly feel that anything is added over Halo 2 in that area. The new equipment is nice, as is forge and the theater mode (especially theater!), but it isn't dramatic and, if the game had been on PC, then half of it would have been added in Mods in a month or two.

It feels more like two expansion packs than a full game. One gives you a decent, but very short singleplayer campaign. The other gives you a few MP extras and a hi-res pack. I don't think Halo 3 is to Halo 2 as HL2 was to HL, it feels far more like how Blue Shift and Opposing Force were to HL. Not a bad thing, but hardly worthy of all the tens the game has recieved.

I get especially irked when I see reviews which list many of these complaints and then give the game a 10/10 anyway. It reeks of fan-boy fear. To me, it was clear Halo 3 is a 8/10 or 9/10 game. In that situation, I always mark it as the lower choice.

 

IIRC it's when you find the brute holding a marine by the neck on the first level. No one says "Kiss my ass" better than Mal lol.
