Halo Infinite multiplayer beta is available on Steam and Windows store now. The multiplayer is free to play. The campaign is due to be released 8th December. I'm really looking forward to the campaign, having completed Halo MCC over last few months. It brings back memories, spending hours trying to get warthog to the top of silent cartographer. Although I felt Halo 4 was the worst of MCC, it's also the only one being made by 343. So I can only say I'm cautiously optimistic for Infinite.
I'll take a look, but I've been disappointed by the MCC reboot. Halo 3 in particular seems less polished than I'd expect and a bit laggy. My LAN night team have been playing the (Eldewrito?) unofficial reboot for a while, and it's far smoother and more playable than the M$ one, albeit with a limited number of maps a few quirks. As above, do love the Halo playing environment still
started playing it some old clan buddies, great fun not perfect trying to send invitations to anyone on my steam list kinda b0rks it for a few mins
I may be getting old, just can't hit all the jumping and strafing players....... But I'm having a blast in vs bot games. It's certainly the Halo I remember from 15-20 years ago. Is it me, or there are some REALLY slow loading players. "Other players loading" takes an age.
Tried it and didn't really like it, but need to try other modes than CTF which is a mode in all games I typically do not like so maybe some other mode I will enjoy. I miss the days of games being about weapon skill and not perks, combo's and other add on's to the game.
Trying not to spoil it for anyone but this rant needs to be ranted. 343 really need to fire their writers, then get an injunction against them ever writing a story again. There's an interesting, fascinating plot hiding in Infinite's campaign, it happens entirely before the game starts without any involvement from you. Seriously what the hell? Master Chief isn't even the hero in his own franchise anymore. Also for the third game in a row there is a new ancient evil to defeat that nobody give a **** about...
On the one hand, I kind of get what you mean. On the other.. SPOILERS AHEAD Spoiler It felt like a reset. Got a 'new' Cortana, got a 'new' Halo, fighting the covenant with a different colour palette (Although I prefer the neon colours of old.. The grey-black-red stuff is uninspired IMO. Annnd I expect 'The Endless' to be Flood 2.0 Unspoiler related - I think there's clipping issues. I didn't get a screenshot, but I grappleshot-punched my way under the map, unable to move, and had to wait for the game to decide MC needed to die.. Perhaps karma for going full bore on using the grappleshot punch thing at every opportunity. I also had trouble with the scrapping station with the four fuel silo's - Two of the 'raise' buttons wouldn't.. Well. Press. I am also struggling to see why I need any weapons other than the starting assault rifle and the rocket launcher. Aside from liberal use of the tank, those two have seen me through basically every encounter. The standout ones that didn't get that treatment are the ones where I literally ran out of ammo and punched my way through it. I used the sentinel beam whenever I ran out of ammo in the later stages of the game and it was hilariously overpowered.
Marines with sentinel beam + Razorback is the way to solve all vehicle reachable problems. Battle rifle + tracking rocket launcher solves all problems when on foot for me. I've only just unlocked the 3rd section of the map. So not reading spoilers yet. But overall, I feel the SP gameplay is a return to form back to Halo CE days: a huge sandbox.
when the world went apeshit over the original halo I remember picking up an old xbox to see what the fuss was about, tbh I wasnt impressed in the slightest, after all; coming from a rich FPS background on pc to trying to play one on a console was a harrowing experience to say the least. i'll knife fight anyone who says playing an fps with a joypad is "right". Anyway I picked up the MCC after hearing about the changes made for us PC goers (a proper FOV for a start) and I gotta confess I really enjoyed them and ended up pounding through all 4 core games in less than a fortnight. Infinite was lovely, combat felt good and well paced, really nice visuals and new cortana and her child like naievity is ****ing adorable, the banter between her and Chief being the highlight of the game for me. (the childish spat between them halfway through one of the bossfights had me struggling to aim for laughing) I want more.
Yeah, new cortana was an improvement over the dour cortana of the last four MC games. Overall, I liked it. I'm mildly irked that replaying missions isn't a thing yet, though. I want to trundle around them in my tank. Love that thing. Love that, somehow, the physics of the original (In that it fits through gaps it shouldn't if you're persistent) are still present and correct. I'm not sure why there are so many Spartan cores though. I think I got them all and I have sixteen spare. Although I only used the threat detector in one of the final sequence of bosses - grappleshot is king. Not sure if it's game breaking deliberately or they're going to patch my favourite traversal tool..
i am enjoying it so far, my only gripe with halo 5 was they b0rked the story up this does feel like a reset of sorts.
Completed it yesterday. Spoiler Story is indeed questionable and felt more like being told what had happened than fighting through it. I completely agree above, all the 343 big bad bosses feels like a revolving door, just one after another. And the big bad brute guy, please stop talking to me via hologram or speakers, it goes old after a whole. On a positive note, the arc for Cortana and Cortana++ is the real focus of the game. I also love how MC handled it when the pilot had a breakdown. But one thing they got 100% right was the grunts. Funniest line was when I grappleshot to a grunt and he said something along the line "I can't be heavier than that guy". I'm 12/13 on the third island for armour crates, 1 away from getting the achievement. But I count I had opened 13 on that section of the map.......
There's lots of good in Infinite, IMO, but there's also a lot more ... "Fine" I was talking to a friend about it the other day, and his breakdown of my rants and compliments was "It's fine". I do enjoy the Grunts, too, though. Their dialogue is spot on. "I'll find him! .. And run away!" As for the crate detection, yeah, I had some weirdness with that (Those and Spartan Cores). Although, with the grapple shot, I'm not sure how much I was supposed to get when I did in the designers ideal play through.
That's kind of the root of my problem, Halo 4 is more or less a reboot, Halo 5 more or less rebooted 4, Infinite is effectively a reboot of 5. What irks me is that 4 and 5 end on really interesting hooks for the sequel. 4 (including Spartan Ops) ends with the Infinity crew and Chief on one side, Halsey and M'Dama on the other and each of them with half of a map that leads to all the Foreunner doohickeys in the universe, it also raised the possiblity of getting the humans who got zapped back. It's a fantastic set up that never gets followed up on. 5 ends with The Inifinity running for dear life, Chief and his team of Spartans linked up with the Elites, a new Monitor and a whole damn battlefleet ready to face down insane Cortana. Then Infinity starts and is all 'oh this happened while you weren't looking, these guys are the real bad guys,' except it's another floaty ancient alien that looks like a Destiny cast off. It wouldn't surprised me if in two years time 343 have abandoned this plot to to set up some new, new ,new ancient being that we should all be terrified of. On the plus side Infinite does have the gameplay pretty dialled, it could only be better if I could call in BT to go with my grapple hook.
It's not exactly inspired story telling - But I think this is 343 buckling to demands to make the new Halo the same as the first three Halo games - Brightly coloured aliens, shooty boom bang, no questions asked. Probably also not wanting Windows assistant Cortana to be confused with the psychotic genocidal one.. Always struck me as odd, that. I don't expect 343 have the same leverage that Bungie had within the 'no we're doing this' debates about what gets mandated from up on high.
I find the Halo 4 Prometheus to be not only brightly coloured, extremely bland and annoying. As someone grew up with Halo 1 and 2 (PCMR for life), I have to say I really like Infinite. Halo 4 in MCC was the worst game of the bunch and I'm very glad to have Infinite put a lid on what went on in 4 and 5.
