Not so much Bungie now, but M$ will continue to fail to deliver properly rounded games while they continue to ignore the PC. Don't M$ do a rather nice operating system for PC?

This seems to be a game aimed at and marketed for young teens ...especially those that don't already have an Xbox ...are there any of those left?

It's a shame. If the Halo series had been developed on the PC through out it's life (and then ported to the Xbox as a Xbox-console excluesive) it could have been one of the greats.

You say that, but of course the game was originally intended for the Mac...

This is one of the games that makes me think about getting a 360, although like you said in the review, that's solely because alot of my mates play it.

I've played through the first two and most of the third and i have to say, nothing will ever beat the original imo.
Although abit cheesy and repetitive, it had that epic feeling.

Halo only got the attention it did in 2001, because it was a superb FPS.....for a console, it was the first viable alternative to the head of steam the PC juggernaught had built up by 2001, thanks to ever more powerful 3d cards, also the fact that the Xbox had a controller that was a viable alternative to a mouse and keyboard helped no end.

But by the time it appeared on the Pc in 2003, it was plain to see, that by Pc standards it was a mediocre title, whose shortcomings had been well hidden by the limitations of the Xbox.

It's nice to finally read a review for Halo which isn't just the typical "oh my god - it's halo, it's awesome" *cough* IGN/Gamespot *cough*.

Good work on writing an honest and accurate review.

Have to agree with all the criticism of the story and campaign. While it is interesting what they can do with the plot (with everyone already knowing Reach is going to be destroyed), the little fan services etc don't really make the campaign any less dull. There are of course some highlights to it all, as there have been in every Halo, but nothing about it that ever approaches the style and sheer awesomeness that came with the first Halo's campaign.

Multiplayer, on the other hand, is ****ing awesome. Best multiplayer yet, and I can see myself playing it for a long time. If it turns out to be like any other Halo after the first, I will more than get my money's worth from the mulitplayer alone. A good day of mulitplayer is something unmatched by anything on any console.

anyone else find the non-centre crosshair is really, really annoying?

i can't stand it, don't know why it's in every Halo game since Halo 2.

Doesn't seem to bother me. I never even noticed. All FPS games I have ever played have revolved around placing the crosshair over the enemies face, so it doesn't really make a difference if the crosshair is in a different position.

meh halo is getting old. I enjoyed halo 1 immensely, loved multiplayer on halo 2, cried when halo 3 was released because all my friends got the 360, I couldn't afford a 360.

I gave the game a 6 because I thought it wasn't worth it with as little new content as your getting and I got a total shitstorm of fanboys

    Halo: REEEEEach!

Nice review. Mediocre game with a Mediocre story on a Mediocre system smells like 360 spirit to me.

Bring on Killzone 3 and Half Life 2 Episode 3 as Halo is so blah blah blah.

I agree except that I dont think it was superb.. for anything. I also could tell from the outset that it was a poor game. As you say, by 2001 we had tons of good FPS to choose from on PC. I have played Halo 1 and 2 for a few hours each and disliked them both. I cannot comment on any other of the Halo games as I have never played them.

I think the multiplayer should of been taken into account a bit more as that is the main reason people are going to buy it,
Bungie could of sold this with no campain and still be great.
But it was nice to see a non biased review.
It would be cool it you could give it two scores, one for single and the other for multi.
Altough it would take longer to test the multi.
