Richard Hammond was involved in a crash today in a jet powered car for the new series of Top Gear.

He is in critical condition and was unconscious at the time of arriving at Leeds hospital, he is "regaining consciousness"

Really hope he pulls through, he's a good presenter and I don't want two good guys being killed in freak accidents in such a short space of time (Irwin).

"regaining consciousness" is a very good sign I hope.

HE'd better pull through. And this one is definately going to be on videotape as it was for the new series.

Gonna find a Reuters stream and find the latest

    ***EDIT***

The article has been updated since the original, the "Regaining consciousness" part has been removed

:( Hope he pulls through, I liked him the most on the show, and he just seemed like a nice person in general.
I wouldn' mind some more information though, wonder how it happened.

I really really hope he's ok. He has at least one daughter, possibly two and is definately a fantastic presenter and character.

Yeah, nice guy, I really hope this all works out for the best, especially for the sake of his family. But if it does go for the worse, I did think that Top Gear Dog didn't get enough attention last season, maybe it would free up some airtime.

Ugh that really wasn't cool. Seriously I love the guy and hope he comes out of this healthy.

He was attempting to break the British land speed record which is currently set at 300.3mph by the same car in 2000.

Hopefully he will make a good and quick recovery.

Just goes to show that some of the crazy stunts they do on Top Gear are actually very dangerous and it's not just put on for the cameras. Let's hope he's alright!

Just heard about this, sounds bad. I really hope he pulls through. He's a great presenter and Top Gear would't be the same without him.

    You suck.

Hope he's gonna be ok. Seems a really top bloke. It would great to think in a years time we could be looking back at this, with Clarkson ripping the piss out him for it on the telly in his trademark manner, and everyone just having a laugh about it all :(

I am shocked about the news, saddened and shocked. Im really worried about the neurological bit of the BBC's story. However it could just be precaution as Sky have said that he was able to talk to rescuers.
I REALLY hope that things go well, not only did he co-present a fantastic show in the form of Top Gear but he also helped with crufts (which i also liked). I cant think of what his family are going through at the moment :(
