I'm having the best fathers day. My lot were at the IoW festival until midnight last night and will likely not surface until after midday, so the house is peaceful and I've had (so far) three hours of quietly getting on with my hobbies with zero interruptions. The best thing is, when they do get up, there will be a flurry of activity as they rush to get ready and go back to the festival this afternoon. So, moar peace and quiet.
Happy Father's Day! My youngest (5) made the sweetest hand-drawn card for me. I'm not telling any of them, but I'm heading out to McDonalds for a breakfast muffin haha.
My parents divorced when I was very young, so had very little time with my dad and, really didn’t know him. About 20 years before he died, 5 years ago, he went to live in Australia. From time to time he came back to visit family but, I was never made aware. I don’t miss him… BTW, had a terrible mother too. Many parents are great, some are your worst nightmare…

I thought I'd had nothing from my son, wasn't surprised as he's distracted with starting a new job tomorrow and has been to a festival and on holiday this week...he has WhatsAapped me and enclosed a voucher for a canoe expedition in London, which is really kind, as I've wanted to go on the water in London for a while I had a lovely card from the cat thanking me for all this stuff I do, a very thoughtful touch from my daughter who's working backstage at a drama show all day. She did also leave a card, 4 beers, 2 packets of biscuits and 2 bars of 'healthy' plain chocolate in a FD gift package, bless her! Have a good one, and be good to your kids whatever size they are!
I sadly don’t get to see my bio son thanks to the she-demon I should never have gone near. But my stepson hand made smash burgers and went beyond the pennies his mum gave him and into his pocket money to buy an £18 chocolate cake I’m to eat all by myself. I feel like I don’t deserve it and very grateful. Spoiler And here’s to my Dad who isn’t with us anymore. Love you, Dad.
My son bought me a meat thermometer for when I'm bbqing , well I bought it and he payed for it as I saw it in Lidl about a month ago and been wanting one for ages. Did a big BBQ yesterday and my daughter came up from Weston super mare for the evening with her fella and my grand corgis. She bought me some cider and a pair of parkside work shorts. Joint celebration as it's my bday next week, she's buying me a new BBQ cover as mines ripped, lasted 2 years which is great considering where we live, an F1 team should be based here as they'd get free wind tunnel testing.
Apologies for bringing this thread down. My wife had Radio 2 on earlier, with Michael Ball talking about how wonderful dads are and, it just reminded me how bad my own childhood was...
My son drew me this dog, it has a certain appeal. Parenting has been hard on me but now the kids aren't so young there's a lot less stress and far more stuff you can actually enjoy together. Just the other week I put on Thunderbirds for the first time, and they enjoyed it. I also read the Fantastic MrFox Fox which they loved, so I've bought a big box of Roald Dahl books and were reading The Witches every night, it's great fun.
I won't ask how old your wee lad is @ElThomsono, that's probably the level of drawing accuracy I'd achieve with a felt tip at my age! Parenting is the toughest job; thankfully they grow, we learn and it gets easier. You have different problems to deal with as time goes on though! 2 weeks ago, my eldest (25M) rang to ask if his backpack was at home No idea, I'm at work, sorry. I need it this afternoon...I'm off to a festival I can look when I get home It was in the attic, but finding it was no good as he's in London and had already set off with a borrowed backpack! Thank goodness for the housemate with a spare backpack I can help, I can't work miracles
Seems to work with offspring items, not so much persaonally. I have lost a lens cap for a lens I bought a week ago and it hasn't left the house...
Conversation I had with Saff the other day when she couldn't find part of a Lego set: "I've looked everywhere and I can't find it, I even tried a dandelion" "How do you mean "tried a dandelion"?" "I went into the garden and blew on one and wished I'd find it" Haha, absolutely adorable, they do have their moments
That's some quality thinking outside the box! I usually find that a missing Lego piece is right in front of your face/the first place you looked... which is embarassing.
