I have an acer aspire one with a 320gb western digital hard drive, the computer seems to work fine, but I can hear the hard drive making that random clicking noise, as though the heads are going back and forwards across the disk. This happens every 5 or 10 seconds. It passes the SMART test and a quick health test with the WD utility, should I be concerned about the drive clicking all the time if it passes ok?
Short answer - yes. Hard drives shouldn't click loudly at all. The drive in our laptop died without any SMART warnings recently, it had been clicking for several months prior.
