Modding Hard Drive Window (56K warning)

    the top platter still has an arm thingy, which is very very close to the surface of the top platter, so even if there is no data the extra height given to the platter by the paint would probably stop it spinning or clog up and go all over the place

    The arm would just scrape off the paint when it swings over the platter, causing UV paint to fly around the drive... could look cool if you don't mind completely killing the drive :D

    You might as well not. You would have to tape the edges so the paint doesn't go under the first platter. And even then, there is always the possibility of the paint cracking and a chip flying into your platter.

    You could dab a bit of UV reactive paint on the back side of the arm. That would look really neat under a black light at night.

    I think that would work and not cause any serious damage.

    Paint on the platter would be kinda messy as mentioned by those above me.


    by the way....
    How do you know there is no data on the top platter?

    actually theres no data on the top and bottom platters, i know because I did 'A Level' Computing last year and we were taught that, the platters top and bottom are there to stop dust etc getting into the main part of the drives.

    So much for modern education - the drive in question only has ONE platter with 1 data head on the underside!:naughty:
