Ok well right now i got a 750 gb hdd a 40gb and a 100gb and a 650gb\ Here is where im stuck i plan on using those hard drives for this 750 for main 650 for backup 48 to boot windows xp 100 to boot windows vista 64bit ultimate The reason i am doing this is because Windows xp for all my video editting and gaming bc for some reason when i run fraps sony vegas frost wire and a game it laggs less on xp Vista for all my other stuff like AIM myspace internet surfing watching videos and all the good jama jama The question is how would i set all of this up? idk anything about raid at all or anyof that junk tryed to under stand...i got as far as clicking the link and hitting the "X" to close out
Assuming that the 40GB and 100GB are quite old drives, they will be pretty slow. Not worth using one as your main boot drive. You should probably boot your Windows install from your speediest drive. Just partition it into main and OS partitions. As for the rest, just install them, plug them in and change your boot priorities in BIOS. This link has a pretty good guide for setting up a dual boot XP and Vista system. Shouldn't need RAID for what you are doing.
i was thinking to make it easier to do this use one hard drive install vista on the 750 and use that for my vista stuff and use the 650 for the xp and xp stuff would that work like if i wanna go on vista just switch the hard drives and its a 48 ssd my fault lol thought it was only a 40 and the 100 is ide lol
OK so assuming the SSD is fast, put whichever OS you was to have the best performance on that. Then do as Von Lazuli said with the partitioning for your next OS - say if you put that on a 100GB partition of your 750GB drive, you can use the 100GB drive as a backup for that and the 650GB drive as a backup for the storage partition. Partitions: if you can imagine a box, this is your hard drive. You want to store your knives in one part and your forks in another so you put a divider in between. This is essentially how a partition on a hard drive works. You can set it up so it appears as two separate disks but is actually only one. Vista: if you are installing fresh, why not use 7? I will create a picture to explain my arrangements a bit better... watch this space!! any clearer?
yes alot more clearer and im not using 7 bc i already has a copy of windows vista that i never used and i will upgrade to 7 in due time
