I think you just need to change it with the HD being first option as you want it to boot from the HD when starting

At the moment if something is in the DVD drive it is trying to boot up from it as this is set as first option

    Cheers

Yes - as Nigel says, try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that HD is first boot device

I concur. Had this problem myself. Reset boot order to make HD first ( I previously had CD first in case I needed to boot from Ghost recovery disk etc).

If I had a bootable CD in there then obviously all was well and it booted from the CD, but whenever I had a non bootable disc in, it just wouldn't boot at all.

You could try flashing the BIOS to a newer version :)

No, it is set up correctly, Ive always had it setup for CD/DVD - HDD - Floppy (when I had floppy's...)

Ive never had issues with a system trying to boot on an unbootable CD/DVD and hanging.

Does it do it with any disc, or is there just particular ones?

    Two options

re configure the boot order so the HDD boots first, or quit being lazy and stop leaving disc's in the drive.

Whats happening is the boot loader is checking the drive, and finding a disc to which it tries to boot off of.

There is no right and wrong boot order, i tend to set HDD as first boot device so i shave a little time off the boot cycle, when i need to reinstall windows or boot off a disc, its only a matter of a few seconds in the bios setting the new parameters of the boot order.

I had a couple of situations where flashing the BIOS solved that problem.
+ There's no reason not to have an updated BIOS :)

+1. Why do anything else? If it's a fairly recent mobo, it'll have a "Boot Menu" option at the initial BIOS screen which lets you pick which device you want to boot from as well, so you don't have to change it if it's just booting once from CD.
