Since other games are ok, I would suggest there is something BF3 doesn't like about your hardware setup. Have you updated to latest motherboard bios? I would try removing 2 of the 580's and see if it crashes on just a single 580.
Any more problems since? I'm wondering if it may be heat related. The memory modules do seem to be getting hotter than normal. But I don't understand why that should suddenly start happening. Neither do I understand why it should only be affected by BF3.
I've read recently that someone all of a sudden started drawing 500w (up from 300w) when playing BF3 on a 580, it's worth double checking.
Could be drivers, might be something similar to what happened with the Starcraft 2 menu screen, maybe the wattage/amp limiter gets disabled?
If it really is only BF3 then as I suggested, try just 1 gpu. Do you have any other game that pushes the hardware as much as BF3? Crysis 2 for example in DX11.... 3d mark? What are you actually doing to test the system? Speculating is no good unless you run a series of tests.
I have tested with Furmark, Vantage, 11, Crysis 2, JC2, all of which run fine. I have also tried each GPU on their own, but still I'm getting crashes. It seems to be just BF3 that is throwing up the problem.
It sounds like your hardware is fine. Quite an extensive range of tests and games all of which run fine. It's not punkbuster servers causing the crash is it? Only other thing I can think is that it's a sound driver issue. Back when I had XFI it would crash the PC in a similar way.
Looks like my problem was down to the Vram modules overheating. I've had to underclock my cards and lower textures in game to prevent crashes. It's strange how this should suddenly become an issue, as BF3 has run fine up until now. I guess I'm just going to have to buy something more suited to my screen res, which no doubt means I'll be putting all these 580's up for sale.
LOL! You mean to say the 3 x 580 have full cover waterblocks? Unless u mean core only blocks? If they're full cover blocks, how could the GDDR overheat?
