I currently own a wii and I'm getting sick of treat like a second rate customer, Yes Harmonix I'm talking about you!!!!! (Wiki RB2 and check release date). Anyway I'm getting a 360 in a couple of weeks for my RB and GH pleasure amongst hopefully some JRPG's if more ever come out. The thing is I know how much noise they make, I hate the noise. Seriously it kills me, I will be installing all the games to the HDD so it's not as much of a problem as it used to be but have the fans on them gotten quieter since the old days of the Core console? That was one hell of a loud beast, I remember trying to game on it at night with my mam just opposite me. I can't believe I got away with it. My cousin has a 2007ish Elite and that's quite quiet but still not the best, my mam's boyfriend also got one and it's relitively decent but is there any way to make sure I get a quiet one? AKA Make sure to get a Jasper console? I'd rather have a jasper instead of a falcon if I can but how could I tell from the box? At the current pricing there's no point buying online so I'll get one from gamestation where I'll be able to see the console but does anyone know a way to tell if I buy a jasper from the box? Also is there any chance at this date that I'd get an old 20GB model with a 60GB HDD slapped on it? I don't need the extra's an elite would give me, I will be using it on a 26" CRT or my 22" Dell Monitor via DVI but that brings the question of how to get 5.1 audio while connecting my monitor through the HDMI? Or will it be a case of using the old video port to output the audio to my sound card while getting video through DVI? Sorry for the lengthy post, I get carried away
Chances are right now, you'll most likely end up with a jasper. Oh and if you find it too loud, rip it apart and fit in some good fans.
if you want to use sorround and HDMI at the same time youll have to crack open the grey plastic on the component plug to the xbox and bend it up alittle to make room for HMDI underneath. the elite has a thinner plug with just sound outouts included but you said you didnt want an elite, you can buy them but theyre way overpriced from what i remember. even if you hack up the plug and it rrods they only ask for the console so theyll never know. theyre alot more reliable atm anyway im on my fourth and its lasted over a year now from what I know some of the different cpus use different rated power bricks so the wattage on the side of the box is different. i think thats the only way to tell, so you can tell if its an old one or a new one, I dont think its specific to every single cpu. there are pics on the net of where to check the majority of the noise comes from the dvd drive, i ripped one open to find out so if you install your game onto the HDD it shouldnt be as loud
In that case I'll just use HDMI+2.1 Output and worry about it later when I get money to buy 5.1 speakers. I know about the power supply, 12.1A is Jasper and 14.2A is Falcon but the problem is I see no reason as to why a shop would let me see it unboxed without buying it.
sainsburys were selling off pros for about £100 earlier this week. you should see if you can blag one still.
thats amps, amps are current, i was talking about watts. http://falz.net/xbox360findafalcon the wattage is on the sticker on the box the xbox comes in. theyd let you see the box im sure. i dont have time to search what wattage the jaspers are you can try that yourself. they mightnt be specific to every cpu but itll narrow down whether or not you have a new one atleast yeh for 2.1 youd just take the cover off the plug and speeze it into its port ontop of the hdmi port and use the two rca's that deliever the sound for 2.1. then when you get 5.1 just plug it into the fibre optic port, what ever its called. ill put up a pic later when i get home if you want
I know and the Jaspers have a 150W power supply rated at 12.1A whereas the Falcons have a 175W power supply rated at 14.2A I read. Is that pic of the box on the outside? If so that'll be very helpful BTW I don't have a sainsbury's anywhere near me, Inverness is ruled by tesco which there are 3 stores of, 1 morrisons and after a good 4 years Asda has only just managed to get permission to come here Is that deal online?
Sorry I fail when I'm tired, about the 5.1 sound and hdmi are you saying the component cable gives 5.1 audio? If that's the case I do have component to vga stuff lying around that I used for my Wii back in the day, that could be an option instead of hacking away at a cable which I'm very bad at, you should see me wire a plug lol
Well if your getting one then id get it now. Looks like Microsoft are dumping the pro sku and stripping the extras out of the Elite. The new elite box art shows that you only get standard AV cables and have no kind of HD cable ie the Component and HDMI cables are no longer included. Meaning that the only difference between the Arcade and Elite is a 120GB hard drive, headset and ethernet cable. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/360-pro-missing-from-new-elite-packaging/
oh wow, cut costs by dumping extra's :O what a pain, unfortunately i won't have the cash till about 2 weeks
The Pro comes with a Component cable which has a optical socket built in to the cable for 5.1 The Elite comes with one of these, well until the cut down version comes out.
have I read this right? That cable SHOULD work with these speakers right? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/74753/show_product_specifications?spectype=extended# If I go 5.1 eventually those are the speakers I'd be buying.
yeh thats the surround sound i have thatll work fine the component plug has the optical plug built into it. 2.1 would work with the two sound rcas on the component leads. 2.1 is just stereo with a sub attached, its not a dedicated channel for the sub. afaik that is. and if it only takes a 3.5 jack theres is an attachment with the xbox that does that this is what i did to use hdmi and the optical output for 5.1 it looks worse than it is, what ever you do dont touch the cable, i cut mine off to make it look tidier but then surround didnt work, its just the grey casing that you need to break open. that little splitter thing that comes with the elite is surprisingly expensive from what i remember the xboxes are due to come down in price apparently http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/25/xbox-360-pro-and-elite-price-cuts-confirmed-in-target-ad-for-nex/ if it turns out the elite is only slightly more expensive the extra space on the hard drive may be worth the moneys
ROFL that's some setup you have there, nice mod Yeah I've already read all about the price cuts but will it change that much here? Think about it, they are having to lower the cost because of the PS3 slim but here the Elite is still cheaper than the PS3 slim at it's current price, I hope they do reduce the price but how the hell has the Wii managed to stay at it's current price? £180 for hardware that practically uses last gens hardware? WTF
ghetto hack lol na it mightnt change here to be honest. demand, why drop the price when your out selling everything anyway. they have a low number of games bought per console so they need the money from the console they cant rely on the games. good luck with the xbox if you get it
Thanks, you make it sound like I'm gonna be plagued by problems ^_^ I could understand if I was flashing it which I'd like too but getting banned off xbox live would be a bad thing indeed T_T
haha didnt exactly mean it like that. apparently the price cut is global http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/27/xbox-360-price-drops-go-global-on-friday-its-official/
Wow the arcade is getting risen to £160? What a piss take! I hope I can get the money in time to get a cheap Pro because I don't want tom stretch to the Elite and I'm not paying £160 for an arcade =\ grats on 666 btw ^_^
If Silence is such an issue, save money and then head over to QuietPC? Thatll solve issues for you. Their Quiet Xboxes really are But they cost...
