As per the title. I see a lot of threads on HUKD about Ryzens on aliexpress and my reaction is always "are you all mad?". But it seems a lot of people buy them, and I assume they are way too complex to fake. Potentially they could be slower ones with the writing on the lid changed, but it'd become obvious as soon as you fire it up and look in the bios or whatever, right? More specifically would anyone risk buying a graphics card on AE? I'm in the market for a 9060XT and stock of the xfx cards (I'm brand loyal) is a little thin on the ground, but I've seen some on AE and the prices as you'd expect are tantalising... but every neuron I have left after years of abuse tells me don't be an idiot it'll be a chinese rx480 or a brick in a box...
I got a 7500F earlier in the year and it's been great, but it was something you could/can only get from there so felt less worried than some other stuff. If you try to go for a seller that has some of the optional options like local seller or choice etc, along with multiple good reviews reduces the chances of things going wrong but overall I'd say it's higher risk than buying from the UK. Overclockers have multiple XFX 9060XT models available it seems.
The only big purchase i made from Ali express was my Anycubic Printer. But i will say the customer service so far on other things where its gone wrong has been really good. Id just suggest find a store with history you can see how long sellers have been with the site, i get allot of my leds and stuff and ive had a few recsast stuff from there. Just like ive said id not go for whos selling cheapest but which seller has been there the longest and best reviews
I have had one or two things from there, like a GE Ryzen for my NAS as low power 35w chips are thin on the ground but depending on value you can get stung on import taxes, I think labour have proposed removing the £135 limit at some point so that might mean you get stung on things of any value. But yes lots of fake hardware on there too. Poll needs a yes but I felt dirty
Bought quite a lot on there, including motherboards, CPUs (nothing high end though), GPUs, a 3D printer, network switches, mini PCs and shed loads of bits and bats/ fixings / tools etc.. I've had one item (a motherboard) turn out to be a scam and another was just not as advertised but I've been shafted on eBay many more times. The only issue is returns, which can be lengthy and problematic in some cases.
Yes I've bought plenty of small ticket items, awesome for cheap ludicrously cheap RJs and whatnot. I have also bought a couple of Lenovo tablets for the kids (before the Legion got released here there were 2 or 3 china-market only models) I'm just scared of getting stung over a graphics card which must be one of the most rife markets for fakery / robbery right now. Will probably end up sticking with ocuk/amazon but my bargain hunder spider senses are tingling hard.
Just had a quick look and most (all I saw?) 9060xt cards were more than the ones available in the UK?
I should point out that, on the two occasions I've had issues, AliExpress was quick to refund me. There are a still plenty of dodgy folk on there (same as anywhere) but it's nowhere near the wild west it was 5 to 10 years back
I purchased a NAS case on there, using a virtual card in my banking app. A week after the purchase and before the item had arrived, the same virtual card, newly created for this purchase and still active, had two £50 charges for prepaid mobile SIMs in Nigeria somewhere. I disputed them with the bank and got the money back, but closed the Ali account and won’t use it again!!
I keep looking at stuff and thinking about ordering, but I back out of ordering at the last section. Do I really need an mATX X99 and Xeon CPU?
Bought most my parts for retro handheld upgrades from cases to electronics, including tools and accessories, not many issues and all been resolved pretty well. Not sure I fancy buying I high value PC items off there mostly for issues I have seen about fakes reviewed on reliable YouTube channels
I only really buy cheap stuff, on there. Most recently some magnetic USB-C connectors so they work like macbook magsafe. Before was right angled DP and power for my monitor, because the wires were showing along the bottom. Car phone mount also seem good value. Always about £10 at a time by getting to their free delivery with "choice". I've never (touch wood) had any problem with them, no payment issues on my Halifax CC. But I've also never bought expensive items on there. All items are at throw-away value in the sense if it were not as advertised, I can stomach the loss. You do get what you paid though. I've previously purchased a magnetic ring for back of phone, I think £7. My wife likes it so became her's. I purchased a very cheap one on Aliexpress, IIRC £2. And it turns out to be very rough. Ah well. I wouldn't purchase CPU/GPU on there though.
