    As the title asks, has anyone tried CygWin? It looks very interesting to me being a Linux nut stuck in a Windows world.

    Description...
    Is this telling me that I can have the look and feel of a Linux system with XFree86 compatability while running onto of a Windows kernal?

    EDIT::
    Nuts... Maybe this should have been in the Software forum... :/

    Penski should be about soon, it will not be here for long ;)

    Sounds interesting, but they need to do it the other way around. Reason I use windows is because most of my software doesn't work under Linux. So why would I want to emulate the Linux enviroment over my Windows, it kind of defeats the purpose...

    /me curses WineX for being so difficult to use and buggy

    Yea, I know what you mean. I'd dump Windows in a heartbeat if I could do my job using Linux. Actually, the only thing that's still holding me back is that I can't get Dreamweaver to work in Linux. I don't want to hear any of this "real developers use notpad" garbage either... Dreamweaver rocks and in my opinion is the absolute best development tool I've ever used.

    Wine is actually pretty easy to configure once you get the hang of it. I've been able to port many apps over to Linux (including IE 5.5) without too much effort. I just can't get Dreamweaver over - yet.

    Load it up when you need a linux app, close it the rest of the time. That's what I did (briefly), anyway.

    I used it for a short time, but it was more curiousity than serious consideration.

    I have used the progam alot in my early computing years. It looks like a dos window, like command. I used it to compile some various things, ran a feww eggdrops from my windows machine with it. Its useful if u do some stuff in *nix but dont want to reboot and start up *nix. Its been a few years since i used it though. Great program.

    IMO you'd get more mileage out of a native PC Xserver. then just keep a headless *nix box around in a closet somewhere, when you need to run something in a n xwindow, you just fire up the PC Xserver. I don't have any screenies of doing this, but I do have the opposite--I ran windoze crap on my X desktop using the Linux Metaframe client (running on FreeBSD under Linux compatibility mode :p )

    As you may infer from the filenames, this was a while ago.

    Sounds like an interesting idea Linear... We run Citrix here at work, maybe I can just install the Windows stuff I need on a Citrix enviornment and just use that to run windows apps I need..... Hmmm...
