I was thinking about how I was gonna make my window and i came up with a cool idea. Why not use some fine sand paper and sand the window a bit and then use EL wire or LEDs around the edge of the window to make the whole face light up? Its not the most creative idea ever, and I sure someone has tried it before, so I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of this, or any input as to how well this works. I really want to know if itd be possible to use a very fine sand paper and some light sanding so that you could still see through, but make it glow at the same time.
Even if you could see through it a bit, it'd still be blurry if you want a lighted effect I think. =\
You would, of course, lose a lot of the transluscence. You'd have to sand it very carefully or else it will look pretty crappy. They make fluorescent acrylic for use with a blacklight to make it glow; without losing it's clearness. Here.
itd be easier to frost it. get some toothpaste (paste not gel) and get a buffing wheel for a dremel or drill or whatever. buff the toothpaste into the plexi and it will look frosted.
Be sure to use the Minty Fresh, not the Tartar Control kind.... (kidding). I'd think it you wanted it frosted, it would be easier to just go to a hardware store and buy frosted acrylic there--the pattern would be more consistent. That, or maybe have someone do a stained glass thing for you. Have seen some backlit stained glass PC windows that actually looked pretty cool. Not my particular cup of tea, but it was still impressive.
my ahrdware store doesnt carry frosted plexi fyi. it really works, and its not hard to get consistent at all.
Yea, don't forget to rinse vigorously arfter brushing, and floss it at least twice a day, or after each meal.
