Do I need it for what I'm doing, hell no. But I've never owned Intel's extreme chip before. I think it's time I get one. Our store already has 5 in stock and I will get one when it launches on Friday. Here's a pic of what came in

I think you're nuts TGS (in a friendly way) :thumb:

I would wait for the 5930K. Sure, it 'only' has 15MB cache and 6 cores but they're clocked faster (3.5GHz versus 3GHz) and it's $600! Still, maybe you can take up video transcoding as a hobby!

I ordered my RAM as it is the only thing which i could already order :D (not from overclockers, i ordered it from local shop, or better said from his german distributor).

Yeah, 32GB is probably too much and won't be used, but why not :). I love that it is black PCB and standard height, so no problems with coolers.

1100$.. It's soooo expencive but so nice, its nice to see Intel now has 8 cores on the i7 chips.
I'm assuming they are truely 8 cores instaid of the AMD 8 core piledriver stuff?

Not your. I meant the OP of this thread. August 29 is the date. Not end of September. And i still think that box coolers are waste of precious materials on this planet. :D

I was looking for more info on this and was surprised to see how many 920/SKT1366 owners are thinking of going for Haswell-E. I must say I am interested, and I have already found someone interested in buying my old kit... should help take the edge of the upgrade. Though I won't be going for the 8 core. I don't have that kind of cash lol.

So then... who on here is going to get one of these for their X99 rig

    Xeon E5 2699v3

18 cores, 36 Threads... $4115 MSRP though... and apparently compatible with desktop 2011-3 boards...

Sucks that it's base clock is 2.3Ghz or that the boost only hits 3.6Ghz.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/8423/intel-xeon-e5-version-3-up-to-18-haswell-ep-cores-

Then again at this point buying a regular Haswell Quad probably is the smartest choice unless you get the i7-5820K. But the 28 lanes of PCI-E seem a waste if you're dropping that kind of serious coin on a platform.
