So, I decided to sell off one of my old systems and upgrade, so I've listed it in my local paper with one of my e-mail addy's. This is the e-mail I got: Obviously it is a scam, but I figured I would see I could get a reply out of this guy. Just so you know, the system I'm selling is a P4 3.2, 512MB, raptor + 120gig storage, dvd/cd-rw and a few extras (camera/printer, ect). I got a reply What should I reply with? I'm thinking I should go ahead with the offer, allow him to send me the "money" (postal money order) and see where it goes. What do you lot think? Obviously I'm not going to fully through with it (uless it turns out not to be a scam), and I just want to try and mess with him.
offer him more bits that youre "selling" just in case hes interested a few screens? maybe his uncle would like 3x 20" tfts, as theyre very handy and youll give him a good price of 50% more than retail rent out a PO box for a bit and get him to send the payment there, no self respecting person would ever send a payment to a PO box
OK, I'll offer a better screen for $300 extra and state that I need a bit more for shipping. See if I can't get him to go $2000. A PO box? Might be a good idea actually... Have to see how much it is.
Could follow that up with asking for some reassurance, since you have a friend that thought it was a scam. He thinks everything is a scam though, he doesnt even really use the internet as he doesnt trust it. You can't see how it would go wrong anyway, but you just want some peace of mind and to be careful. you hope you didnt cause any offence.
You can sometimes get a postal money order that will only clear once the goods have been sent and OK'd by the receiving party. Basicaly what he'll do is send the money order, I'll ship the computer, he'll claim he never received the goods (or that they were defective, or something like that), keep the system, the money, and leave me with nothing. Or, failing that, he could have some "ideas" of something to do with my apartment (like rob me or something).
Woah, if he doesnt take the monitor ill sure as hell have it It may be best to point out that youre not suspicious of him, but a friend told you that you should double check to be sure.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/04/26/business/scam.php read up. it's a scam you can bet on it the give away was west africa...
pull a p-p-p-powerbook. Get him to pay you Cash for shipping (post office doesnt take cc or interac) and then send him a computer box, with bricks in it, and mark customs at 3,000. Also, the 30" dell tv is too big of a giveaway that you know what you're doing. Offer him something like a Dell 2001fp, for an aditional 250 + 100 shipping.
The 30" gives you away... I would have sed: Fine for 1600€. None of that Postal Money Order crap though. And give your IBAN account and BIC number from your account. L
ahaha thats so funny, but what wouldnt be funny if he sent you the money and it wasnt a scam lol, yeah the dell is a give away
This is pretty funny, but remembering ALL THE MASSES OF ATTENTION the P-P-P-Powerbook thread got when it first came out, I'm wondering if this isn't another of Malfoleo's "Look at me, I'm an attention wh0re!" threads. Course, after the last 7 fake threads, I'll never believe another word he says again, so it could just be me....
harsh. "lying on the internet is like lying in the special olympics. even if you don't get caught, you're still retarded." that... doesn't quite work. AH
What they do is tell you to ship it to a middleman, upon receipt they'll send you the money. Mail him a brick.
That's exactly what we expect from Wireframe. Every post he makes these days seems to be a really cutting remark. Humorous at times, but not always too friendly...
Please pull a p-p-p-powerbook. Just say "I am sorting delivery but will cost $100" Then send him the brick!
