^^ shovels are fun... flaming bag of poop = more fun. still extreme though. This seems pretty weird if he has a local addy. I would def. check it out.. good call on the drop off cant go wrong.
I honestly don't know what to think at this point For those of you who don't know, post office's do not carry a balance under any circumstances I want so much to keep this up, but I don't want to give him my addy, and I can't rent out a P.O. box! But I'll see what I can dig up tonight (going to check out a few "options" tonight...)
tell him to send them and get a po box. then once you have them tell him you need cash to post it or something. then hand the postal money to the police saying you think its fake and give them his address.
i dunno dude its seeming rather strange... at this point you really have nothing to loose seeing as you figure this is already a scam so theres not really going to be a sale. Maybe go upfront on him. Hes making it seem pretty legit... so you can just tell him, someone you know got scammed this same way and you have doubts and he doesnt seem willing to offer any reassurance.. granted if he is scamming you he will either give up and dissapear or go out on a limb to still scam you somehow... I would maybe get something in writing and signed and throw some tracking tags on your parts so if he scams you, you can show the police where your stuff is and then bust him.
Well, as many other people have said, something smells far too strongly about a scam (honestly, who would pay $1500 for a bloody P4 system?!), and as a result I'm not letting any hardware get out of my hands unless he hands the money over to me directly. If I can work something out and if he sends me something, then I will be going straight to the police with it, as that seems like the best idea at the moment.
ZzzzZZzzzz it's blatently a scam. At first it's just one of those auto-generated things that will reply to any ad, and then when you reply properly you may get a real human scammer. And do go down to that address armed with ****, this guy obviously ain't gonna give you his real address. Anyway, I would give up. I don't really see how you can go any further without giving someone your address, and this guy is probably sitting in his house in Nigeria, not particularly bothered if you don't reply. You had your fun, quit while you're ahead?
ffs it's a scam, through and through. If you think you're going to end up with any money well, tbh it's through greed. I would personally forget about it, see if you can get it relisted for free and get the buyer's ip address blocked from the site. Also, if you receive any kind of payment, it'll be fake. Whichever company the scammer uses, forward the relevant details onto the actual known company.
Put in the address as the guy next door, and explain to him exactly what you'er doing, down to the box of bricks. Then continue with the p-p-p-powerbook
just send a container lorry. mark the custom as something rediculous like 25 billion and organise it so that the shipping gets paid when it gets there (which is about 15 grand on its own). if you could totallly screw up this guys life in this way, would you?
I would suggest turning all your info over to the po-po or the website where you listed the system. See if you can get them in legal trouble.
Cant you just look in the telephone directory for his number? You have his name and address. See if they match phone directory, and if they do, phone him, say you are in the area and could collect cash payment. Interesting to see what would happen.
Or just don't and hope you have an honest neighbor I get our neighbor's mail all time time, either due to incompetent deliverypeople or companies that don't realize 157 != 158. The police wouldn't care most likely, I'd either spend some more time screwing with his head or just give up. That or just send him a photo of the system or something.
I think he's given up on me I haven't gotten any more e-mails from him, so I'm going to just have to start pestering him about it - see if that works. The e-mail I just sent him goes as follows: As for a reverse look-up: try 411.com or 411.ca. Neither of those bring up anything about him or the addy.
just got an email from you know who... so I just put my old computer up on craig's list [dual processor G4 867, want to get an intel iMac]... and I get an e-mail from a Mr. Steve Conlis: hello , i will like to know your final price for this item , and i will also like to know if it's in good condition and available for sell. if is till available kindly reply to me now. My first instinct is to google his name to see if the dude is legit and of course I find a few links of him trying to buy random items (like printer cartridges), but most importantly I find this forum post. Had I not found this post I still would have been a bit suspicious, but now I'm pretty sure the dudes a phony. Maybe I can pppppower-mac him? I wonder how often he searches for that name? Maybe he's read this post? Weird.
A quick google search finds him working in DAVEX (No idea what that is) trying to buy something. Personally, I would send some fish guts/lighter fuel. (and matches)
um... I would take a couple of mates, go on a small trip to his house, have a beer or two on the way (just as well make the most of it), knock on his door and say 'Ive got the computer, if you want we can go to the PO and get the moeny order' If he like WTF then you know that it aint the right guy and tell the person at that address that he is using it as an address in a email scam. Go to the police with all your evidence and hopefully the guy will get screwed over. Regards GiGo
