    Now that the HD5830 has come down a bit in price can now afford to upgrade to it. However I need to know whether it can run games such as COH, Arma2 and BFBC2 at 1900x1080 comfortably.
    Cheers

    Hey, I think it should be ok but I would say get a HD5850 if you can stretch a bit.

    What is the cheapest HD5830?

    It will games at that Rez, if you don't want direct x 11 270 or 4890 is a better card performance wise

    They look pretty similar according to that link jbloggs, is it really worth trying to find a 4890 instead of just getting a 5830 and getting DX11?
    Cheers

    I think there are really only five reasons to get a 5830 over a 4890, assuming they perform at the same level as each other...
    1. Lower power consumption
    2. Less heat generated
    3. Less fan noise (due to less heat)
    4. DX11
    5. Longer support

    However, it is right to say it is not worth upgrading from a 4890 to anything less than a 5870. The 4890 matches or out performs the 5830 and gives only an average of -10% performance on the 5850.

    As for power and heat; yes at idle the 4890 (with the stock cooler) is not a quiet and frugal beast. However under load, compared to many of the mainstream cards, it is;

    I stand corrected on the heat generated under load point but power consumption and noise is less, both at idle and under load.

    If it was my money I would get a 5850 anyway...:D

    If I was buying this year, this generation and to that budget, I would too.

    If it was a straight choice between a HD4890 and HD5830 I would choose the HD5830...however, if you can stretch your budget a bit then OcUK has the Sapphire HD5850 @ ?229.98 which would be an even better choice...

    As I said in my first post you will be much happier with HD5850. I would say shell out those extra ~£60 and get it.
