Hi, Does this combination work? I've searched around the net, but I can't seem to find any pictures of an HD 5870 in an Antec 300. I understand that it fits, providing there are no harddrives directly infront of the card, and you buy the reference design card (not the Vapor X) which have the power supply in the top. Anyone got any more information or any pictures? Ta
w00t! I was wondering when someone would ask. I have 2x5870's in crossfire in an Antec 300. I had to ask the question too - there's not a lot of wriggle-room. I recommend adding the optional fans to the front of the case to ensure that there's enough cool air for them to pull through to the rear of the case ... but aside from that, it's all good. The Antec 300 fits 5870's and smaller, GTX480's and smaller. The card that it does not fit is the 5970, which is a beastly length.
Impressive - how was it fitting each card in? Was any modding required? Do you have cable management holes? Thanks for the input
No modding was required to fit the cards, but there's not any space left at all really. You'll see from that pic that cable management wasn't my strong suit - although this pic was straight after jamming them in. I've since upgraded ot a modular PSU, have mounted those SSDs, etc. I still haven't done any mods. Fingers66 is a good person to contact if you have questions about Modding the Antec 300. He's been researching this pretty heavily and I'd guess that he'd be happy to share some info. Here's a couple of links: http://www.overclock.net/computer-cases/741787-antec-300-cable-management.html http://www.overclock.net/computer-cases/741787-antec-300-cable-management.html
I'm not an expert as I don't have an Antec 300, but I have been reading a lot about the cable management of them as I will probably buy one for the hell of it (once the building work here finishes). Here is a collection of links I have found that documents a lot of different peoples experiences with cable management mods on the case: http://www.overclock.net/case-mod-wo...tec-302-a.html http://www.overclock.net/computer-ca...anagement.html http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...gress-fan.html http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...rformance.html http://210.5.52.29/forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1020 http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...anagement.html http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=187577&page=4 http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?p=3776592 http://www.themodbrothers.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=545 http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en...ed=0CEUQsAQwAw http://www.overclock.net/computer-ca...anagement.html http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=577904 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...4#post13761814 http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=170432 http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...tec-300-a.html As I mentioned to roo elsewhere, I myself would lean towards the round holes for cable management as I don't own a Dremel - a hole saw will do it. That coupled with u-channel would make a simple and neat solution. In addition, I have been looking at the mods that remove the metal material from in front of the fans as it would vastly improve airflow. Some uchannel and a chrome or stainless steel fan guard would look good. Lastly, whilst I haven't found more than one example, the Mod Brothers 300 prize case had a 92mm hole cut in the floor of the case and reversed the PSU so it would take cool in air from the outside. There are not a lot of photos of it but it sounds simple enough using a 92mm hole saw, some uchannel and a fan guard. Hope this helps.
