That's a double-edged blade. What makes Guru3D untrustworthy and your links honest? Unless someone can conclusively say that their results are strictly impossible they could very well have had some difference allowing theirs to work. There's also a video out with Tiny Tom (Tim?) with quad crossfire, haven't watched it myself but I'll have to check it out now to see what he's getting. EDIT: Scratch that, don't have sound right now and can't figure out what's going on.
I want 2, but I don't want to pay first day - lets rip it out the consumer - price (tho I know some do, providing it works)
It's not impossible to believe there are problems with CF, as AlexB has quite clearly proved this with his HD6970's. BF3 scales fine at 1080p, but problem arises when using higher resolution. If you read the article properly, it explains this to you. Now go and Google HD 7970 CF problems, and have a good read.
Yep, and he clearly states that Quad CF is a headache, and is only really for benching. (Willy waving!).
To be honest, I wouldn't be too concerned, its a new architecture, and its launch day today. Hold off buying for a week or two and if performance issues still haven't been addressed then think about getting something else. I certainly wouldn't be buying non reference 3GB 580s right now.
New architecture, new process and AMD's driver history as of late. The only thing I am surprised about is that some of you guys are. No desire to hate on AMD (their drivers really are very hit and miss), but a little patience will serve well here. I'd be shocked if this remained the case for too long. EDIT: Parge, how did your team of mind reading ninjas get back to you so quickly?
I bought SB-E on release day, the only reason I didn't get these on release is that I'm holding out for Kepler and hoping it's a load better
I hope that is the case, but going on AMDs past driver experience I won't be holding my breath. Took them what, 6 months to get xfire working with eyefinity Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using Tapatalk
Looks like I did the right thing in holding off buying a couple of these. I'll continue to sit back watch what driver releases do... or see what Kepler is like. Spending £1000 on them and having these sort of issues would have been very depressing.
Far too soon after release to take these results as how it will be with 7970 CF. Wait a week or two and they'll have sorted the drivers out. Don't forget Nvidia drivers also do naughty things like burn cards out from time to time. Hammering AMD for this isn't really fair.
This is the main reason I switched back to NVidia. I had a 5970 dual gpu card which was waining on it's own. I bought a 2nd and got practically ZERO frame rate gain, and instead was gifted with stuttering and glitches. AMD drivers on the whole are pretty rubbish - which is a huge shame, since the cards when used as a single card solution, are fantastic.
the last few months havent been AMD's finest hour ,its to be said, but would have thought their r & d dept would hav tested for xfire extensivly with these
