I recently bought hd Western digital 80Gb 8Mb cache 7200rpm and i tried installing it in my pc, there seems to be nothing wrong; i.e. all the wiresa are in and connected and the power is in but when i go to bios and check for the drive which is set to slave and my other 9.5 to master. It detects the master but not the new one, if anyone know the answer to this porblem please tell!:cries:
I have a problem with one of my drives that although the power is attatched it does not connect properly and I have to play with the wire a little. Try that. If not, try different combinations of master and slave or a different IDE cable.
try putting the new hdd on its own cable and see what comes up then... also what is the jumper configuration on the back of the new one set to??
All of them, but particularly the molex wires. Just recheck anything that could be loose! Also, have you tried changing which connector on the IDE cable goes to which drive?
if your saying put the new one as master and the old one as slave then, i thought you would need to install xp on there first but the problem is when the computer attempts to detect it .......it just stays on auto detecting for a long time and i tried it a couple of times
In your bios you can change the boot sequence, and ask it to look for other boot devices. No harm in trying!
so u reckon the new one is dead?? have u tried puttin it on there all on its own?? ie nothing else attached to teh same ribbon cable?? try that....also what mobo have u got??
give me a sec i have to reboot to check and i had this comp since 1999 so its old does that have anything to do with it??? gimme a couple of minutes
well the infoemation i found was AOPEN AX6BC R.2.20 BIOS V4.60PGMA 01/19/1999-1440BX-00000006C-OO IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER JUST INFO OF THE SCRREN THAT MAY BE USEFUL
that is quite old, so im not 100% certain the hdd is compatible...but have u tried the hdd in another pc btw??
Ah old mobo and old BIOS. Its sounds more likely that the BIOS doesnt recognise the new 80Gig hdd size (80Gig hdd are relatively new tech), i think 30gig was the max back in '99 ..... as the guys have said, try flashing the BIOS, the mobo should see it then. Additionally .... I would recomend you set the 80gig as a master and on its own IDE channel if u can, so u dont bottleneck that speedy beast!
theres about 6 different versions of your mobo so i need more info to be able to identify it properly....
Can't go wrong with that, and are you sure the jumpers are set? Might just be little things, such as cables not in properly or something. Or it may be the old mobo / bios or a combo of these things. Ug
