So that was something that you were kinda going after huh? Well at least I could help. hehe as for the shocking key thing.. hmmmm... I think that would be an interesting add on.. I think that we need a shocking smiley..
one thing I forgot to mention, which should be obvious, but I'll make sure you are aware of.. You will need to use the +5V Standby to power the coils of the relays. Otherwise you will need the computer powered on when you want to change the state of the drives. Which could be a very bad thing
Okay.. Just had another thought about this. If you were to add another relay into the circuit for the line feeding the switch you would disable the switch when the computer is running therefore nothing bad could happen if someone were to screw with it. However, you would need to change the relays for the hdd power to a latching type so loss of power to the coil won't disengage the contacts when you turn things on... of course I still ike the idea of getting zapped if you touch the key when everything is on Just some more to think about
Did you get a RESULT? Hi trying to reach Da_BaCon I find myself in a similar situation and wondered if you came to any solid conclusion and was able to isolate your HDD for the purposes you mentioned. May I add that since there have been several posts to the effect ‘that you should NOT switch off the HDD when the machine is running/the machine will not like it/etc, PLEASE understand we are aware of this and accept the consequences of our actions. However there ARE reasons why the disc may need to be isolated from its power supply whilst the computer is powered down. This is the reason for this thread. Best regards, Stan
