Anyone have a link for a free HDD health check please. I have a problem when logging in as it hangs quite long when starting up so I think it might be the hard drive

though have you checked what programs are loading on start up? It sounds like the number of startup programs might be too great.

There is a freeware version of SSDLife that will give you a health check AFAIK. A quick google for it will sort you out. Hope this helps

Also as phoenixck says check startup programs , one may be hanging , also give it a good derag ( i find windows defrag is still the best and have tried many over the years , takes ages though , so do it over night) , and possibly download and run ccleaner , may also help.

I read that Acronis has free edition for western digital, seagate and maxtor which are downloadable on their support site. Give it a try.

Thanks guys. I got hddlife in the end. It said the drive is perfect. Will do a fresh install when I go on Holiday on Friday.
Tried ccleaner still no joy, I even thought it might be the mobo. Think I might get a new one as the rpm on CPU2 fan does not seem to be reading that good always in the red. Might just get the gene V.
