Hi, I have done the great mod of putting t window in my HDD, it was a completely b"$?@ked drive so didnt matter about dust and stuff.

I have done an extra little attachment though....... I have put a small LED on the Read/Write arm so when it moves the LED moves nicely.

Need help though, as the drive is no good, the read/write arm only move for about a minute while it trys to pick something up, once it knows it no good it stop.

IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN MAKE IT CONTINUE TO MOVE NON STOP??? Maybe even in different kind of movement pattens

You could use a timer circuit on the yellow power input into the drive.

Like a 555 that lets power to the drive flow, the wsaits a while (read arm swings), the cuts power for a while then switcehs it back on and the arm swings again.

Zapwizard, Nice HDD mod, and I see how you have made the swing arm move, but i dont know where to start on mine, there is no labling on the circuit board what so ever, most of the components are tiny, any suggestions???
Its a Fujitsu 10.2 Gb HDD

ZapWizard in your guide you use the term "Star Driver". Is that a crosshead, philips, torx or hex?

There should be at least two chips larger than the rest. But with less pins. These are most likely the motor control chips.
You may have one, or two. They would also be near the wires that physicaly run to the motor, and head. Check those first.

I couldn't remember the name at the time, but it's torx

    Zap Wizard.

There are 4 chips in total, one huge one, one small retangle one and two small square ones.

The hugh one has "Cirrus logic" wrote on, the rectangle has "Sanyo LC384161DT-10" and the two sqaure ones one has "Sanyo LE28F1101T-40" with PGT8 stamped on to it, and the other sqaure one has "Om155, HA1362T.

I can send you a pick if you want, email me at Russell_Harrison101@Hotmail.com or add me to your msn

I don't know the cirrus logic, as I need the IC's number.
    By searching google I found...
The sanyo is a memory chip.
    I cant find anything on Om155, HA1362T

You can usualy tell which is the motor controller as it will have less pins, usualy be rectangular, and have much large pins than the rest. This is because it uses it's pins to draw heat away.

Are there any numbers on the Cirrus logic?

Hi Zapwizard, I appriciate this mate.

On the Cirrus Logic chip is wrote a few numbers,
    CL-SH8671-450E-A4
    F010522C-1219AH
    0106 I
    Korea-F

There is also a small square chip on the swing arm but I think this has nothing to do with the magnets and more the read/write head

The cirrus logic looks like the CPU, but how many pins appox does it have? A few 8-20 or like 40-100?

The LE28F1101T-40 is a Flash EEPROM, the BIOS for the harddrive.
The LC384161DT-10 is a RAM chip, the Cache for the harddrive.

The small chip on the head is a op-amp it just amplifies the reader.

    Are there any more chips?
(I guess now a pic would help)

These are the head, and motor controllers on my HD
(Not they are larger, but have less pins than the CPU (lower right)

The cirrus has hundreds of pins.

The only other chip is that one you cant find, it has around 68 pins.

do you have an email addy and I will send you a pic
