    hey all

my main system is having problems again. recently the hard drive span up and down repeatedly in windows and wouldn't stop. i rebooted the machine and from then on, the machine got stuck on "detecting IDE devices" even if the HDD wasn't plugged in. After a short while and a load of fiddling and CMOS resetting and stuff, it was able to boot off a small 2gb drive and allowed me to reformat the main one and reinstall windows. All was well until it happpenned again, but this time it just span down and stayed off even though the machine was turned off and back on again. When I unplugged a fan, it was working again!

Question is, is the Morex 350W PSU definately at fault?

On my harddrive, I had a harddrive cooler attached to it. One of the fans failed and started to rattle. Everytime I booted, I would sometimes get a Harddrive not detetced etc. When I removed the fan everything worked fine.

Also, your psu could be underpowering the system.

I could be dying and its just a conincidence that it worked after you unlugged a fan. Try another PSU, or try the hdd in another computer.
